Does anyone know when Pumpkin Cat's Taobao is coming back online? From what I can tell they're just doing an inventory clean out but because their shop's notice is in an image I can't use Google to translate it :( They're my absolute favourite Taobao shop and I just got a new dress so I'd love to see if they have any good accessories!

Hi all,

First-time poster here so if if the first question is too off-topic, let me know.

1) As a group, we have varying levels of fluency in Japanese so I was wondering what online tools non-fluent lolitas here use to navigate Japanese-only sites? As a language student, I recently came across a chrome add-on called rikaikun. I love it because learning kanji is an ongoing process and this add-on provides both furigana and definitions when you hover over text so I can actually learn new words and how to read.

2) I recently bought an IW union jack skirt which turned out longer than expected (63cm) on me (I'm only 5ft/60in tall) which isn't a problem on its own but I also just purchased my first standard size pettiocoat (I measured it as 47 cm from the top of the band to the end of the last layer). I'm having trouble figuring out whether the pettiocoat is long enough or is this is something that can be taken care of by wearing another layer underneath. Would it be better to purchase a longer bell shaped petticoat instead? How much length difference do you think is okay between a skirt and a petticoat?/can a stong poof on top be enough to even out the bottom?

Thanks!

Hello, I am very new to Livejournal, and the community, so I hope I don't step on any toes! I have a few questions related to a skirt I'm sewing for Easter, and GLB patterns in general.
Any help is appreciated! )

So recently I've noticed certain accessories becoming very popular, namely echarpes (sashes). I wanted to try a craft project to make one so that, when I figured it out, I could make a helpful tutorial for the community. I ordered the GLB with the echarpe pattern and figured it would be pretty straightforward. However I've encountered a problem. I understand what to do with the majority of the pattern pieces but there are random pieces that I have no idea what to do with.

So, instead of muddling through it on my own and probably messing it all up, I decided to post here with the hopes that a fluent fellow lolita would be able to help me. I have two short pattern descriptions from the GLB that I need help with: one is for the echarpe and the other is for a simple headbow (which sounds pathetic but I swear this thing has a random extra piece). I would need all the text associated with each pattern translated for me.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to post the tutorial with your help!

I was browsing the internet for a bit today when I came across something curious -- a page on the Japanese Wikipedia about lolita fashion. Curious, I scrolled through, when something caught my eye; they have a section entitled "名称の意味", or, "The Meaning of the Name." This caught my attention because I know this has been a point of discussion within the Western lolita community for ages.
Although I do study Japanese, I'm not a high enough level to read the entire article. I caught a few references to Nabokov's Lolita as well as the names of a few brands.
If I could, I would've translated it myself and posted it here, but since my Japanese is still far too basic, would there be any of you capable of translating it for us?

I've recently been looking around feverishly for natural looking wigs and I found some inquirys of gabalmania on egl and proceeded to scour the internet for their brand. I found this asian market website called Qoo10 which is apparently connected to gmarket. I found this gabalmania wig for a steal at apparently $38.55 shipped: http://list.qoo10.com/item/GABALMANIA-CARAMEL-MACCHIATO-BUSH-WITCH-LONG/402542880#itemInfo
...but then I did some looking around a things started to get weird and disheartening. There were other entries of the exact same wig but for twice the price. And I'm still unsure if shipping to the USA really is free. Could someone (more experienced than I am) please help me and explain to me:
1)The true price of the wig+shipping
2) the difference between the wig linked above and this one: http://list.qoo10.com/item/CARAMEL-MACCHIATO-BUSH-WITCH-LONG/402543452?selectedOptions=

For the past week or so I've been really into trying to hunt down various English translations of Japanese articles or even just internet chatter about Lolita. I am especially fond of reading the much older translations, whatever they might be about, as well as Novala's pretty wacky ~lonesome maiden~ ramblings.

Since my list is getting pretty long, I figured I would share this with the comm!

A somewhat long and varied list, from proper manners to a history time line to misc. internet chatter )

If any has any more to add to the list, feel free to leave a link! I'm actually particularly interested in finding some more translations of Novala's Soreinu essays.

Edit: Oh! I just found an archived site of a bunch of the Novala translations I was looking for here!

I was looking at some accessories on the online store of Shoo La Rue. However, I can't seem to find the information in regards to if they do international shipping. I can't read hiragana and google translate isn't helping at all.

I'm in the middle of a customer service nightmare with Bodyline and the mis-communication between me and them has gotten to a ridiculous point because I don't speak/write japanese. I tried using a translator site but it is not helping the situation at all.
I need someone who can write clear accurate japanese to help me communicate my customer service problem to them. Otherwise, I'm stuck in this email loop from hell that has been going on for a month.

What it comes down to is two items were missing when a group order package arrived over a month ago. Items that were definitely paid for. I'm obviously not ok with paying for a dress, etc that never arrived.

Help ?!!

Please don't reply telling me to open a paypal dispute. We opened one and got zero reply or help from paypal.

Hullo!

I have a request!

I have the Gosori Rori (sp?) volume 3 catalog/magazine, and I am very interested in using the patterns within. My only problem is that I cannot read or translate the katakana/kanji that they're written in. If I took really good digital photos of the pages, would any of you loli's be willing/able to translate them for me?

Any help at all would be muchly appreciated.

I need to know how to do this. Can anyone translate it for me?? I have to do my lipstick like this for tomorrow. I tried to do it on my own and it came out alright but I think I'm doing something wrong still. Thank you soooo much!!

I asked about this several months back, and I don't think anyone seemed intrested at the time, but I really want to do this, so I'm trying again.

I don't own the EGL bibles due to lack of money, but I'm with a scanlation group, and I am dying to get my hands on scans of the manga that are in the EGL bibles. Would anyone in the community be intrested in supplying my scanlation group with scans?

For those of you who don't know what scanlations are, they're where online manga fans scan, translate, then edit into English manga for the reading pleasure of other fans online. If you were to supply the scans, I wouldn't need scans from all the manga at once. I just need one of the little oneshot manga to start out.

If you're intrested in helping me out with the project, please e-mail me at aldrea_1@yahoo.com

Also, I was wondering if anyone is aware of a sort of anthology of all the manga in the EGL bibles? Does a little tankubon of the stories exist, or is the manga only avalible in the egl bibles themselves?

I'm eyeing a mini top hat from the brand Spica. It's pretty reasonably priced, only the equivalent of about $30-35. If I can just figure out the actual dimensions of the hat, and it's not too big to look right on my little head ^^;, then I plan to buy it. Uuuunfortunately, Babelfish didn't help very mch in trying to discover the hat's dimensions. Can anyone here read enough Japanese to tell me how big it is?
