Sewing book

I'm a beginner sewer. I can do basic mending and such. I'd like to learn more about sewing, so I can alter some clothing I have, and possibly make my own skirts. Do you have a specific sewing book that you swear by? I'm looking for something that is beginner friendly, and covers all areas. Possibly something that shows illustrations too, so I can see exactly what they are trying to explain. Thanks in advance :)
Also, do you know of any lightweight sewing machine that is of decent quality? I work at nights and have a lot of down time, so I would like a machine that isn't a pain in the butt to transfer back and forth.

Uh-oh...

So I put an e-mail in about two weeks ago (maybe sooner) trying to reserve an item from BABY. I hadn't heard from them and I knew they were backed up and I got worried because I really wanted the item. Last time I tried ordering and hadn't heard from them, they ended up running out, so I didn't get it. Anyway, to cover my butt, I ended up putting the order through Crescent Shop for the same reservation. It's all taken care of through them, all paid for and everything.

This morning, I wake up to find an e-mail from the charming Ayako. They got my reservation and now I have TWO reserved. Um. So. I really only need one and now that the one through Crescent Shop is taken care of, what do I do?

I replied immediately with a quick e-mail explaining that I had already reserved the item and paid for it. Truth be told, I did NOT expect BABY to come through with this because, as much as I love them, their mail ordering system in the past has absolutely never worked for me. T-T;;

HELP! What do I do? I feel really silly right now... ::SIGH:: I'm so dumb sometimes.

Just over two weeks ago I posted a kodona/ega design contest here. The winner would be awarded funds for executing their desgin. However due to the overwhelmingly large...... lack of entries I decided not to announce an official winner. With only two contestants and three designs it is not much of a contest.

Okay, since Baby is very busy and Meta is out of stock on everything I want, I went looking at other brand's websites for a tote bag and a parasol and I FINALLY FOUND WHAT I WANT.....from MAM!!

wow it was hard work but great!! I cannot wait to get the pictures! Viona is also making a new flyer for my shop ^^

Hey kids~ Tomorrow begins Anime Weekend Atlanta! electronat and myself will be doing a panel titled 'The Lolita Lifestyle' at 4pm on Saturday, so check the program book to see where it's being held. Mostly we'll be discusing topics on lolita as a fashion and life style, and educating the cosplaying masses that 'egl' isn't just cosplay to some of us.

Also, there is/was supposed to be a tea party/social at 4pm tomorrow, however one of the directors informed me that they dont have a budget for it, but didn't actually say if the event was still going to be on or not... So we'll find out tomorrow :D

Why? Because I made another obsessive visit to Kinokuniya today, despite knowing I am out of Baby's general size range, and started putting dresses up to myself for my own amusement, etc etc. Okay, so you know how there's that rough test you can do with clothes on the rack when there's no fitting room around (like in a bookstore) where if the side seams of the clothing on the hanger just about reach the side seams of the clothes you're wearing, then it fits?

I thought to myself, wow, that parfait onepiece looks huge on the rack, lawlz that can't be right though! and gave it the seam test for fun. And, um, it seemed to fit. Please note I have nowhere near a 70cm waist.

xD I just thought this would interest/amuse some of you, cos it sure amused me (and interested my wallet).

Well, my best buddy came over and snapped some photos of me in the lovely Metamorphose Antique Bouquet set that I just received from tmy lovely friend, Helena! I thought I may as well share these, before everybody and their mother and their fourth cousin comes along and posts theirs. I loved the entire set, and if you missed out, you'd do well to buy a set from bakacherry or theosakakoneko! These sets are worth their weight in gold, and are just so adorable! I'm a huge fan of the Antique Bouquet series, so I was really happy when they brought these out!

If ANYONE has the Black Sleeping Beauty JSK (shirred) and is willing to sell it, I am more than happy to pay over what you spent on it (if you're happy to let me get the funds together :P which should be by next friday). I realise that occasionally they pop up on Y!Japan etc, but frankly using Y!japan/celga etc confuses the ass out of me...Alternatively if anyone lives in japan, and happens to see one in Closet Child, again I will happily reimburse and pay for your trouble...I was friggin heartbroken when I got to the site tonight and it was sold out (perhaps it has been sold out awhile and I just haven't noticed - I am unobservant like that).

I can't do trades, alas, because I have nothing of worth except some crappy Kstar stuff.

On to the queries...

Are BIGFATBOOTS an automatic NO with lolita? I ask because i'm sure i've seen pictures of EGLs in Japan wearing huge black not-particularly-delicate boots, and I personally do like the foofy-skirt-with-huge-boots thing...but i'm just not sure. The boots in question that I have thought of pairing with an EGL outfit are these.

The other query was, are stripey socks also an auto-no? Is this a contentious issue? Whats your opinion? Which outfits do they look good with, and which do they look yucky with?

And final query - where's a good place online to buy loli blouses that AREN'T brand-name, and are reasonably cheap? Somewhere to buy cutsews too would be nice. I do intend to save up for brand stuff, but I am poor :( - if anyone has any pretty tees/cutsews/blouses for sale PIMP THEM TO ME HERE!
