If ANYONE has the Black Sleeping Beauty JSK (shirred) and is willing to sell it, I am more than happy to pay over what you spent on it (if you're happy to let me get the funds together :P which should be by next friday). I realise that occasionally they pop up on Y!Japan etc, but frankly using Y!japan/celga etc confuses the ass out of me...Alternatively if anyone lives in japan, and happens to see one in Closet Child, again I will happily reimburse and pay for your trouble...I was friggin heartbroken when I got to the site tonight and it was sold out (perhaps it has been sold out awhile and I just haven't noticed - I am unobservant like that).
I can't do trades, alas, because I have nothing of worth except some crappy Kstar stuff.
On to the queries...
Are BIGFATBOOTS an automatic NO with lolita? I ask because i'm sure i've seen pictures of EGLs in Japan wearing huge black not-particularly-delicate boots, and I personally do like the foofy-skirt-with-huge-boots thing...but i'm just not sure. The boots in question that I have thought of pairing with an EGL outfit are these.
The other query was, are stripey socks also an auto-no? Is this a contentious issue? Whats your opinion? Which outfits do they look good with, and which do they look yucky with?
And final query - where's a good place online to buy loli blouses that AREN'T brand-name, and are reasonably cheap? Somewhere to buy cutsews too would be nice. I do intend to save up for brand stuff, but I am poor :( - if anyone has any pretty tees/cutsews/blouses for sale PIMP THEM TO ME HERE!
That is all <3

I like big fat boots and I like striped socks! and it is possible to make it look good! you just need a sense of fashion and coordinate it in a beautiful way :D

Date: 2006-09-21 04:29 pm (UTC)*ahem* anyway, yeah, stripey socks are traditionally a nono in this community but i see brandmodels wearing them all the time and they look damn good in them too. so basically, its how you look in them and how you coordinate it.

Date: 2006-09-21 05:29 pm (UTC)HA. Okay, sorry. I litereally laughed out loud at that.
I also agree with Duplica. I think if you can pull together different pieces and make them look lolita and follow the basic guidelines of lolita (keyword "basic") I think you could make it work. I also think that it's fashion, and if it makes you happy, then it's beautiful. :)

Date: 2006-09-21 04:33 pm (UTC)As for striped socks, someone once joked with me that if G&L had 'levels,' striped socks would be 'EXPERT level.' Meaning you'd have to really know your G&L to pull it off. I've seen it done in ads for Baby's Alice & the Pirates, but most of the people I see doing it here are the girls that throw on HT dresses, a headdress, and Chii ears at cons. (No offense intended to any of the above, I think.)
So I think that's something else you'd have to be really careful about doing.

Date: 2006-09-21 04:39 pm (UTC)my highest level would be punk lolita and ero lolita ;) I think most people cannot dress good in these two styles, because it's so difficult!

Date: 2006-09-21 04:57 pm (UTC)As for stripey socks, I don't consider them an auto-no either, but there is the problem that your average Hot Topic emopunkgawth loves to wear them, so I think you kind of have to show off your coordination skills in all other aspects to make people see past that. Actually, I think a good way to encorporate stripes while steering away from the norm is to wear stripey lace-topped kneehighs instead of stockings, or wear a different stripe combo than black/white. I love Meta's striped socks, actually.

Date: 2006-09-21 05:07 pm (UTC)I would say just match the boot up with the outfit, as in..if you are wearing loli I would stay away from 8 inch heel shiney as all get out PVC boots with upteen million buckels on them. That just looks out of place.

Date: 2006-09-21 05:26 pm (UTC)I like striped socks. I wear them all the time, and I do have ones from some of the brands. The problem is they are overused, especially in umm, less than perfect outfits. Black and white stripes especially.
Really, with both elements, it is all about co-ordination!

Date: 2006-09-21 06:45 pm (UTC)About the boots... I'd say no to those boots in particular because of the buckles and whatnot, unless you're wearing more punky lolita things in which case it would go great. Boots can be worn often with lolita, but usually they stay away from buckles and chains and such because it doesn't go (...again unless you're doing more punk lolita). If you look at the boots that the brands themselves make it gives good clues what to look for, lacing up the front, more streamlined construction, bows, etc. Sorry I'm bad at explaining. ^_^;
I've seen striped socks look super cute and almost all the brands manufacture them too. It's mostly hard to pull off blackxwhite striped socks (well, that and super bright colourxblack socks which I see as one of the very few automatic nos, I've NEVER seen it look good in lolita style). Most especially pastel colour (like light pink, or light blue, or whatever matches your outfit)xwhite look really cute with a lot of things. As someone said above, Alice and the Pirates is a good line to look at for coordinating more gothic lolita clothing with blackxwhite striped socks. Also lots of Metamorphose coordinates are done with striped socks on their website (and also their website in past years, which is worth a look at through the Internet Archive search thing for the cute coordinates).
Striped socks it really depends on the outfit too though, such as wearing an elegant VM or MM dress would look horrible with striped socks.

Date: 2006-09-21 07:45 pm (UTC)H&m is a good place for blouses (and not very expensive either).
Stripes are ok with egl but i don't see what color combination would suit that particular dress. Just go with black socks, that way you'll never go wrong.

Date: 2006-09-22 02:35 am (UTC)If you don't want them to look too punk, mabye you can "tweak" thier look? Black silk roses in the holes in the base, and fat black bows (leather is better) pinned over the buckles on the sides, to make bows trail down the sides? Change out the laces with ribbons and strong string of fake pearls?
(oh, I have big, fat, half furry boots) and they are adorable. As others said, it's just depends on your imagination!
