After many nights up until two am stitching on lace and ribbons, I finally finished my first amaloli dress. So it was off to the cakeshop with my boyfriend and a camera...

I like the corset lacing, even though it was fiddly to sew. Lots of little ribbon loops make Vanessa's fingers hurt.

*shock* A lolita drinking coffee instead of tea. It was still nice n_n.

These cakes were very yummy. Mmn, lemon tart and almond cherry pie. The cake shop's name was Dorothy, on Cuba Street (for any New Zealand lolitas) and it also has lots of wonderful chocolate.

This isn't a parasol! I was afraid it might rain, so I took my pretty pink umbrella, which I found at a $2 store.

I found the fabric at a store in my hometown while I was on university break. I like it so much I'm actually going to go back this weekend and check if they have any more. It's a kind of stretch cotton with pale pink and white stripes. The dress has three different kinds of lace, half of which I sewed on by hand. What can I say, I'm neurotic. My fingers hate me for it >.<
The sleeves are detachable just below the puffs, but I didn't take them off because it's still the middle of winter here, and despite the sunny day it was still cold. I need to make a white cape to go over this n_n I also made the headdress and collar to match, and the Hello Kitty charm necklace is from Asakusa, Tokyo. It was a cellphone charm!
Please excuse my black shoes and bag; I'm saving up for some white ones, but pretty fabric stole all my moneys.

kalmialatifolia: a blue feather with glitter on it, macro (ohh! shiiiny!)

Do you have any idea of how cute you look? (Bonus points for having made the dress yourself.) I love the sleeves.

I actually really like how the pictures are shadowed- it's not dismal or bad lighting, it's just kind of sweet. A cute girl on a rainy day. Though I really like the fourth picture, where the light is hitting you directly.

That's amazingly gorgeous. You can really tell all the hard work that went into that dress. It's just beautiful!

Okay, now see THAT is ridiculously adorable! I absolutely LOVE the puff sleeves and it's fitted pretty nicely *and* you actually made PINK SEERSUCKER look GOOD! Wonderful, wonderful job on the design and construction. You can really see all the work you put into it. And adorable photography, too. You look fantastic!

You wouldn't think it, but we redheads look good in pink. Beautiful dress, I've never seen another like it. Are the long sleeves detachable? Also, I concur with the group on the last picture. Who is the lovely, top-hatted gentleman escort? =o)

what retouching? The blurry backgrounds? If her boyfriend's a good photographer he could do that without even touching a computer

Date: 2006-08-23 05:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blupp.livejournal.com
the blurring, and yes, I know that please, i've worked with cameras for years. Thats why you do it with the camera, depth of field. It looks shitty on her pictures, mainly because she/he whatever blurred not just the background but also the foreground.

i know sometimes you can make things look perfect, but sheesh...i think the pictures look good all blurred in the background...it gives it an ethereal type feel that i personally love and think it looks great with the poses especially the one with the cake display in the background

i didn't mean to insult you...
Just i would have thought that would be 'effect' or something of that sort, rather than 'retouching' which implys afterwork.
i think it's done pretty well to be honest; even if it's not it looks nice.

There her photos, she's in focus and if she's happy that's all that counts; even if it does peev a few proffesionals

Date: 2006-08-25 09:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blupp.livejournal.com
No problem, i think we got of on the wrong foot :P That effect is the effect of some afterwork, so its an effect of retouching/modifying.

Yes, but is it? I think it what I think also matters :P

that last picture is kind of scary!

but it looks good, that fabric looks interesting!

i'm not a fan of that cut so much though; the seam down the center looks kind of dated (for lolita styles), but it's still cute :3

Totally off topic, but I got somewhat excited when you said Oceanside, cuz I thought awesome more Oceanside Lolitas... then I realized ((by checking your info)) that your from CA lol... ((I'm from Oceanside as well... but on the other side of the country))

xD I remember there's an Oceanside somewhere in Rhode Island or somewhere far away like that. That got me excited too. There aren't any Lolis in my city!
