underskirt question

For an underskirt, like the one pictured here: http://hk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ling_lam2005/detail?.dir=bc3bscd&.dnm=feddscd.jpg&.src=ph, is it usually made with an elastic waistband or a zip and button waistband? Which one would look better?

I'd make it with elastic. It'll be much easier (and after all those ruffles, easy is good), and it'll probably be more comfortable for an underskirt.

Yes the ruffles...I think I will prolly cry and scream while making an underskirt. Have you made an underskirt before? Cos if you have, would like to ask you some questions. :X

Thank you so much. ^-^ What shape of skirt (rectangular/trapezium) do you use as the base before you attach the ruffles on? That is basically what I would like to know.

I personally always prefer rectangular skirts. It gives you a nice poofy cupcake shape, and it's a whole lot easier!

I'd make it as big as a normal skirt, so it fits over petticoats and won't get smooshed under and overskirt.

wait that skirt doesent come with the underskirt?? i ordered that skirt. !

When I asked her if that skirt came with an underskirt, she said yes, but would have to pay $5USD extra. So, I asked her if it was possible to just get the underskirt only and she said it's possible, for $6USD. Turns out that the underskirt she meant was actually a pannier, not the underskirt pictured in there with the three layers of ruffles. I wanted an underskirt not a pannier and it would cost about an extra $25-$30 to get one, so I decided not to order an underskirt from her instead.

I prefer zip and button/hook for an outer skirt, because of how it gives a more 'finished' look, in my opinion. But for an underskirt, just elasticize the thing. I'm going to be starting one soon, and that's what I plan to do with it, since no one else will be seeing the waistband of it and, as it's already been said, it makes the job a lot easier :)
