So here's what happened today:
I have a Méta parasol, the poodle one from this year, and I used it today because it was raining. But at some point, the wind was so strong that one of the metal bar bended, and a lot... it is still usable, but I'm a bit disappointed too, because it is rather noticeable.
So, my question: Considering that Baby/Innocent World/Angelic Pretty parasols are pricier, are they more sturdy? Because I might as well pay more next time and get a better one >.>

From just comments and general of brand parasols; parasol not equal to umbrella.

Actually Meta parasols can be used as umbrellas because they're also water-safe (I LOVE that about my Meta parasol). I don't know about the other brands. However I would imagine none of them are made for high winds, whether or not they will protect you from the rain.

I've had tons of regular umbrellas bend in the wind. It's just something that happens.

Yes, exactly. When it's windy out, there's a point where you have to choose between chancing it with your umby or just letting yourself get wet.

I agree, I live in a quite windy country but all umbrellas no matter how expensive or cheap usually break when the wind gets under it.

best advice, simply dont take an umbrella or parasol out when its really windy.

other then that there is nothing you can do to keep them from breaking with wind.

They're also much longer if I remember correctly so it can be unwieldy.

My MAM one has gone through a lot in the last 2 years, but nothing had gotten bent.
Just light scratches on the little spokey thing at the top...

It also depends on where you live.

For a southern California girl like me who sees practically no rain year-round with the exception for a few patches of rainy days in the late winter, sure -- go ahead and use your waterproof BABY parasol in the rain.

But for those individuals in heavily windy/rainy/stormy areas -- it's a no-go, unless you don't mind a broken parasol/umbrella.

About wind and umbrellas

I don't know anything about the exact conditions when your parasol broke, but most umbrellas can't take moderate to high winds (there are places where only tourist traps sell umbrellas because the wind is so strong and consistent... Your better off to get a clear rain poncho or rain coat...

If your really careful you might be able to bend the bar back into close to the same way it was, and if you know someone who has a wire welder, it can be used to repair the bar if it snaps, but then it would still be delicate compared to the other bars and likely to bend or brake again in the wind.

Make sure that if you can get it into shape that you re-inforce it, i didn't do that and that is how mine eventually broke.

My Meta parasol bent, then it bent some more, and now it is snapped. T_____T
But in saying that it took a lot for that to happen. I am going to be all crafty and try to fix it, but have not got around to it yet. But then again, my parasol is older and I have seen the new ones and they are different.
I'm getting Angelic Pretty next time.

Oh, I just realised how bad that sounded. I mean the little metal arm that holds out the umbrella, not the actual parasol itself. Mine is made of wood and is very sturdy, I have had horrible things happen to it and hasn't broke.

I don't use mine if it is very windy, I think it got squashed. Like when it was up andit came against something, I don't remember exactly.

I would simply suggest only using parasols to protect you from the sun and light rain...

What helps, actually, is if you're out on a windy day, hold the parasol/umbrella very close to the...canvas part on the pole, like high up, and point it INTO the wind, so that it doesn't flip inside out or something. XD It's not very elegant-looking, but it might help to keep it from getting damaged.

That's what i do, it looks funny. If it is windy enough that you are getting wet underneath your umbrella anyway, then put it away. (Some people don't, and that is just stupid)
