Roosevelt Island NYC Picnic pics!
Aug. 20th, 2006 08:59 pmHey all!
Just wanted to share some pics from our little picnic on Saturday. It was a lot of fun, and we've coined a new term: NY Lolita Time. Basically, NY loli's will almost always arrive 30-60 minutes late for a meet-up, thus never actually being late for each other XD
But, we had a LOT of food, including yummy egg salad finger sandwiches, smoked salmon and cilantro butter finger sandwiches, cucumber and dill butter finger sandwiches, apricot cookies, other cookies of a variety I can't remember now, and a crumb cake. Needless to say, I had a lot of good leftovers for home!
After we ate, we had a little impromptu photoshoot at the very tip of the park where the lighthouse was situated. I love this park so much! In spite of it being a cloudy day, I think we got some very nice pictures. Check them out!

Well halo thar sailor! ♥

I think it's time to admit I am much too tall for brand ;_;

She's much too cute! ::envy::

All together now girls: *drool*

Our newcomer from Lubbock Texas! Unfortunately though, the wind decided to really pick up, and although her poses were so cute, it was hard to time the pictures because her skirt would keep flipping up!

It began to rain and got awfully muggy!
We also got many compliments from the 'islanders', who seemed to really like our style. Since the one train on the island wasn't going back to Queens,
schwarzbrille and I decided to walk back to Queens via a small connecting bridge. Once on the other side, there were two old Italian guys sitting on a stoop smoking cigars, and they said to us, "That's it! That's how young ladies should dress! They got the right idea!" and then wished us a good night. I was rather surprised by it actually, old Italian guys are usually the most vocal about 'against the norm' fashions ::thinks back to the older males in her own family and neighbors::, so, even if a bit mysoginist, I was still pleasantly surprised by their compliments.
Well anyway, thanks for looking!

Nice photoshoot though. That's nice about the Italian guys. ^_^

Date: 2006-08-21 09:13 pm (UTC)With this meetup, I was meeting people for the first time. Some I had met briefly at Otakon, but that's not nearly the same as actually hanging out with them and engaging in conversation. It's always a mixed bag at the meet-ups; some are strangers and some are close friends, but it's a great way for all of us to connect and get to know each other. And I always do my best to dissolve any cliqueness, because I know that can make people feel very left out. (Of course I can only speaking for the ones that I've organized, I've not been to many other meet-ups this year, unfortunately)
So, I hope you do come next time. I'll be looking forward to it ^_^

Date: 2006-08-21 08:13 am (UTC)Awsomeness! I have a male friend who could probably pull off the sailor outfit... Just not the rocking horse shoes, he's giving me height envy already.
err... Thanks for the inspiration. Hopefully next spring I'll cool pics to share too.
Oh, and may I save a couple?

Date: 2006-08-21 09:17 pm (UTC)And I know!!! I HATE photobucket with a passion! Zoto is free too, and way more reliable. I wonder why people don't use that instead?

Date: 2006-08-22 06:27 am (UTC)But I don't think that comment was in any way, shape, or form a bash on women. More like a celebration of modest dressed women which would indeed be "woman loving" instead of the usual "good" comments towards women who are dressed, well, less than respectable (IMO, that's misogynist).
Sorry, I'm bugged by the overuse of that word, simply because most people use it when it doesn't apply, at all.
