Aug. 20th, 2006 08:20 pmHi everybody!
Okay, me and a couple friends are starting a band. (Yeah, I know, you've heard all this before. XD) I'm not here to plug us, I just have some questions I'd like to ask everybody because I think your opinions are important.
Right now we have three, perhaps four, band members, and we're working desperately on our image. Our keyboardist is a hardcore Dandy, and would like to be that way on stage. I'm a guitarist, and I'm Classic Loli, although I'd love to try some traditional Victorian clothing onstage. (With some modifications, of course, for flexibility.) Our other guitar player is a fan of Dandy as well, and our final member (another keyboardist) wants to be what she affectionately terms "pirate Dandy," as in Dandy with a 18th century look.
Now, my concerns.
1. Are we going to look like a complete and total rip-off of Malice Mizer with a Lolita (me) on guitar?
2. How do we make our three Dandies look different enough from each other so that we all stand out? If you think it's a bad idea, what do you suggest for one of our Dandies to make them still fit in with the Victorian-type image, but not blend in so much?
3. Will one Classic Lolita look okay with three Dandies?
4. Anything else I've overlooked?
Thanks for your help, everybody.

Like, for example, have one wear red prince pants and a nice ruffly shirt, another decked out in black aristocrat, and the last in a white gentlemans coat.
3. Of course. xD

Thank you! :)

Date: 2006-08-21 03:23 am (UTC)There shouldn't be any problem with your 18th century style dandy looking like the other two; 18th cen. menswear and Victorian menswear look completely diferent. Perhaps for the other two one could dress more gothic and the other more colourful, like in bold plaids or something? It all depends on what they like; I don't think it should be too hard, especially if they're playing different instruments.

Date: 2006-08-21 04:11 am (UTC)1. From what I've seen of Malice Mizer, Mana didn't even look so much lolita as he did a very exaggerated lolita costume. I would not have even made the connection if you hadn't mentioned it, because unless you guys are combining your style with heavy Visual Kei elements, I don't see any similarity.
2. Blending together a little bit isn't a totally bad thing, as it could help unify your band. But that's all up to you. ^^ If you wanted to coordinate and yet look distinct, I would suggest three unique styles, but all in the same colors. Or, vice-versa--similar outfits, different colors. If you're really looking to distinguish each of them, I would say that you should establish a complete "look" for each one. Dress them as you would a character--is this person more of a youthful type, in prince pants and a deconstructed shirt, or more of a dignified type, in an elegant coat?
3. One classic lolita would look adorable with three dandies. You'll probably get a lot of attention as the distinct one, which isn't such a bad thing.

Date: 2006-08-21 02:49 pm (UTC)Yeah...we're incorporating parts of the visual style, but I think we really want to branch away from that and be more diverse with our musical style and our personal image as a band. We're closer to sort of a steampunk band than a visual band, honestly, when it boils right down to it. XD Thank you for that, though, hearing that from a few people really eases my mind. @_@
That's a GREAT idea. o_o' I'll talk to them about that right away! Really, we're going to have so much to talk about. XDDD I really like your idea, though. Thanks!
X33 I guess I would get some attention, but yeah, that's mostly okay. ^^' As long as I don't make a fool of myself in public, hehe. I'm always so tongue-tied around other people.
Thanks for all your comments. ^_^

3. Sure.
4. Tell us your band name!

Date: 2006-08-21 02:40 pm (UTC)Yeah, that's a good idea, too. I'll be sure to talk to them about that. ^_^
Our band name, TENTATIVELY, is Kakumei. That's the project name we're working under right now. It may very well change, though. ^^' Thanks for your interest!
