jumper skirts?
Aug. 12th, 2006 11:32 amI don't know if this is the place (putting this is sew_loli too) : Anyone have advice for making a whole dress? Altering dresses I can do but I would like to be able to draft a pattern for a whole dress, with or without sleeves.
P.S. I like this one someone posted before. I don't know how to make a cut..

Date: 2006-08-12 04:35 pm (UTC)It's the polka dot black dress. The lines of the dress (how the top and bottom are connected and it flares out at the bottom) are the same. To make a jumper like in your picture, just add straps and don't attach the sleeves. You would also have to slightly alter to neckline? to make it more heart shaped...but if you can cut a paper heart then you can alter the neckline :) It's the same Sort of thing.
For the scallops...Gothloli #2 (ISBN# 4834721361) has how to draft scallops from a skirt with straight lines. IMHO, I think Gothloli #2 is the most useful one for a Sweet Lolita. I've use it the most. That and the Bible Extras :) I like the Bible Extras because the cut of the patterns are a bit nicer than the Gothloli ones.

Date: 2006-08-12 05:01 pm (UTC)As always I say use a commercial pattern. The less screw-ups you allow yourself the better. Just think, one of your pattern pieces doesn't agree with the other one? You forgot to add a seam allowance? Poo, your whole dress is pretty messed up. The modifications on most of the patterns would end up being that ribbon on the bottom, the scalloped hem(of which there's a great tutorial somewhere online...), and that bow. Those ('cept for the hem) are pretty easy things to add, so get a pattern and run with it.
I recommend a Gosu Rori, but there are other "loli-able" patterns that can be used.
pardon the OT but...

I think you just need to modify it ^^. I don't know how the side and back looks, but for the front it just seems like you sew some lace onto the seams. The heart-like top of the jumper I'm sure you could figure out on your own, it doesn't look too hard ^_^.
The bottom looks like pleated ruffles to me, I don't have the link right now but a quick lj search of "ruffles" and I'm sure you'll find it easily ^__^. And the polka-dotted edge above the ruffles is called a scalloped edge, I believe. ^_^ Here's a link on that: http://www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00141.asp However as a warning I don't think hemming a scalloped edge is very easy ^^;.
As for the bow, I think you can use this link: http://community.livejournal.com/egl/5832358.html#cutid1 , just add an additional bigger rectangle ^__^.
What I do when I plan out a pattern for a dress is first draw out the design and then analyze the details. Then I draw out the pattern from basics like the first link and then just add on to it. When everything's done I add the seam allowance, usually I use 3/8 of an inch ^_^.
Hope it helps! Good luck! ^__^
