lolitas at otakon
Aug. 7th, 2006 02:51 pmOtakon 2006 was a great place for lolitas this year with two panels, a fashion contest, two teaparties, and Baby and Bodyline being sold at the Dealer's Room.
Otakon 2006 was a great year for me as a lolita because I met the editor-in-chief of the Gothic&Lolita Bible and Kera, Mr. Naoki Matsumura. He took my picture and asked me various questions about why I wear lolita and how I feel in lolita. He also asked me a lot of the street snap questions, like what brand I was wearing (I was wearing this :O), how old I am, where I'm from. I don't think I'll be in either magazine as the picture was taken with a digital camera but I do feel as if it's worth mentioning here.
I'm not just being a braggart jerk, though, because I think the fact that Mr. Matsumura was at Otakon scoping out the lolita scene is a very good thing. This may mean good things for the American lolita scene if the editor-in-chief of our bible is seeing there's a market for lolita in the United States.
That tidbit having been shared, onto pictures of lolitas at Otakon!

darcia26, who is very cute and was consistently one of the best-dressed lolitas at Otakon.

Some girls from my highschool. I... uh... :/

This girl is awesome! She made amazing handscreened tshirts, really cute socks, sockmonsters, headdresses, etc. She's also incredibly cute, as you can see!

yuki_dragon, number one in my posse, rockin' the Putumayo.

nerorizim has some of the most original and awesome style I've ever seen.

ugly_kitties in a handmade JSK. I love the sheet music bows!

Cowlita. It's creative, that's for sure. He made it himself!

Autumn and
sakurafairy. Tyler made both dresses.

Tyler made Jorden's dress, too!

Tyler :D

darcia26 in a Meta Sweets skirt. So cute!

tian_shi in Angelic Pretty! A much-needed sweet loli among all the goths at the con.

hyzenthlay2582 won the big prize at the Nana Kitade fashion contest. It's clearly well-deserved because she looks awesome and made it herself.

Tyler made ALL of these. All the girls look fabulous. I met jadedragon and she's adorable and awesome.

oshidori looking very beautiful in Meta.

Kara is always the cutest.

Gini and me. I'm really good at looking creepy. Gini looks cute. You can't tell because my headdress is covering it, but my roommate
gingko_retard gave me fancy hair! She is amazing.

kisei_prophet in a handmade Strawberry skirt.

Midnight meetup!!

Enjoying the food and conversation.

Kara provides me with an awesome photo opportunity.

This is Karen! She told me this is her first lolita outfit and I think she did a superb job. Very adorable.

You cannot hide from me, Kisei.

Amanda and co. She made that dress + apron herself!

One of the coolest wa-lolis I've ever seen.
I hosted a teaparty on Sunday. It was very low-key but we got our picture taken by Travel & Leisure Family Magazine. Don't ask me why! The photographer particularly liked redheads, apparently. o.O

Kisei in an apple JSK she made herself. She is awesome.

That skirt is so badass!

An decked out in Jane Marple. I never see anyone in Jane Marple and it's so cute and really suits her!

Codi will also choke a bitch. In Baby the Stars Shine Bright.

Cori also in BTSSB in that wonderful check JSK and Amanda in handmade.

My little sister being deep and gawth in my h.naoto skirt. She's doing a good job not smiling.

Hells yes, best ouji ever!

petitminet in Bodyline. She accessorized really well. Also, she made delicious cookies. It proved her worth as a lolita and a human being.
J/K

Purple is so rare but the cute girl in Meta and
kiyomi23 are representing and looked awesome.

Oujis, aristocrats, etc. One of which is
jeremiahmagic, who is enjoyable and very knowledgeable about the fashion.

[Bad username or site: ügly_kitties @ livejournal.com] and Kisei deep in conversation!

Assorted lolitas talking about trucks, migraines, 15th century poets, Hezbollah, and cake.

I do give them credit in that they were not visibly mad at me for sucking at hosting a teaparty.

A pretty young lady in Millefleurs.

My best friend actually bought one of this girl (http://lovelyburger.com/pics/otakon2006/frihyunlee.png)'s adorable sock dolls and I kept kicking myself for not going down to the Artist Alley!

Date: 2006-08-07 07:35 pm (UTC)There were a LOT of lolitas. I was pretty lazy with my camera so this is like 1/15th of them. It was startling.
Yeah all her stuff was so cute. I was tempted to buy a headdress but they were all black and I don't really do goth loli these days

Date: 2006-08-07 10:01 pm (UTC)isn't it amazing and fun how many loli events are going on at big cons these days?!?!? i remember just a few years ago, there might only be 1 gathering or maybe a panal.. the panals were almost always given horrable times *(like on the afternoon of the last day of con when everybody is leaving..)
how odd, at AX is was the opposite, many many more sweet loli's then gothic lolis, maybe different ends of country has different trends?
the consistent amount of lovely clothing that
the purple girls look adorable.. All of the gatherings look fun as could be!
i want to see a better picture of the copper splashed waloli, it looks like that outfit is really cool, but i don't think the photo does it justice. and ohh that last girl is flashing some Vivienne x_X
sweet
as always
That looked like a very very fun convention!!!

Date: 2006-08-07 11:47 pm (UTC)Actually, those were only maybe 1/5th of all the lolitas there. It's not quality control so much as laziness, I think, though.
