EGA for MEN

Hey all. To start this off, I want to say that I am desperate. Very desperate.

Roughly less than 2 years now--what might be long to some, and short to others--I have been looking for clothing that fits my taste. It's incredibly tough. As of now, I currently live on black Dickies pants, regular black T-shirts, and a black pirate shirt that's actually not that bad looking. But none of this is my taste. And this is where I am on my knees begging you for help. I need clothes!

A brief overview of my taste: I am into EGA much more than EGL. It's more formal, less influenced by pop-culture. But don't get me wrong, I don't want an outfit I can barely move in. Apparel from the movie Interview With The Vampire is a good example, although most of it is more aristocratic and less gothic.

That said, remember--I am desperate. Any good, non-tacky clothing I would love to see. Oh, and one last thing; I'm not rich, so a blouse for $100 just isn't going to happen.

Thank you all for any help offered!

I'd suggest moitie as a good brand to go with... but they run a bit small. But I know they carry EGA clothing for men. The next thing i'd suggest is Black Peace Now for Men.... They're having a sale but blouses are still about $80+ a piece. Theres this one dress shirt that I really want, but I doubt that i'd fit into it. There are also cut-sews for men... which is less EGA, but for a more casual look are on summer sales for about $40. I really cant recommend anything else but looking for a seamstress to ask her to do your work... and even that can get expensive. If not thrifting and altering clothes might help. Sorry that isn't much help, but I hope it does.

I think you're probably going to have to trawl through goth sites for stuff, unfortunately all my links are to places in the UK! If you want those, I can pass them on?

I'd recommend Moi-meme-Moitie or Atelier Boz (unfortunately Boz don't ship internationally).

I'm also thinking of selling or auctioning some very good quality non-brand EGA blouses. They would fit a UK size 12.

I bought this pair of Penguin Brand pants for my fiance, but it didn't fit him, so I'm selling it at a discount. I believe it's a size 32 waist 34 length (can check when I get home from work):

The material is a thick cotton, like moleskin or a short velveteen. The details on the pocket (satin buttons) are wonderfully old fashioned and would great for EGA or gothic dandy.

Let me know if you're interested :)

Sew! It's the best way to get clothing you like, the way you like, for the price you like.

Buying brand can be rather expensive, and I don't consider it necessary if all you want is to look presentable in that style.
If you have any experience with sewing, then I highly suggest raiding the costume sections of pattern books at fabric store/hobby lobby/walmart/online. Simplicity and Butterick especially have wonderful patterns that would work well for EGA in both mensware and for women, easy to follow instructions, and good sizing. I actually just bought a pattern and fabric for an androgonous poets blouse today to play with, and have been stalking some men's vest patterns for a while. :)
If you don't have much experience with sewing then you can always commission someone to make the clothing for you. It's cheaper and though it can sometimes lack the crispness of brand clothing, it can also add more personality.

Hope this helps!
