[livejournal.com profile] vitalritari made me this luscious skirt—a replica of an Atelier Boz skirt, with one color modification—and wanted to see photos here on egl. I am in love with this skirt, personally. :3

Disclaimers:
1) I am sorry for the poor editing of my red-eye, thus making me have eyes that are ten times more terrifying.
2) I am also sorry that my hat seems to be kind of falling into my face. Whoops. Ditto the random sheets hanging in the corner of the photos.
3) Please do not say a word about my hair. I know it sucks, I know. I already had a 60+ comment post involving advice for my hair, which I will follow as soon as I have the time and money to drag myself over to Ricky's for some Tigi or something.
4) The skirt is kind of heavy, which is why the petticoat isn't doing its usual superduper magic, but I like the shape it's giving anyway. :c

Questions:
1) I... I am not sure this is the best outfit/coordination for the skirt, but I tried. >_>; Open to suggestions plz.
2) The boobs. Augh they look so awkwaaaard but as a fatty-chan I am not comfortable with being flat, so no sportsbra for moi. I don't know what to do, lol.

Srsly, onto the photos.

I think, maybe you should try a red shirt? I think that'd be super cute with the red plaid.

That skirt is awesome though.

I really like the skirt, but you are right, the boobs are an issue. (I hope I don't sound too mean, but you did say you wanted advice.)

You might find that a formed cup bra (the kind that are padded out with a little of foam and are shaped like your boobs before you put them on) might help. Failing that, try a corset or even better a long line bra.

Anyway, I love that skirt, and you aren't a fatty-chan!

That's a long line bra. It's basically a corset but shorter. They will usually only go about to the top of your hips.

You don't really need the tummy support that they are meant to give, but they do give your boobs a lift, which would be more flattering with an underbust look, I think. You want them to point up, ya know? The cheapest and best option would be the formed bra (like this --> http://lanebryant.charmingshoppes.com/Shopping/product.aspx?product_id=LBPR0006&nav= ). That's what the lady at the bra shop directs me to, anyway...

I agree with aingli_deas, a red shirt might look good too ^_^

You look good in it! It suits you. May I suggest a black blouse instead of the white one, perhaps with white lace or trim to tie it in with your shoes and stockings? It might bring the whole thing together a little more nicely, although what you have now is also quite charming. And don't call yourself a fatty-chan, your build is just fine and you carry it well.

As for the...ahem...girls, might I suggest an overbust corset as opposed to an underbust one? They tend to cup them a little better so that no bra is required, but they give you a little more support while still giving you a bit more oomph. X3

Ooooh nice to see more plaid lolis :) I'd reccomend the bra with the X...I think it's racerback? Pulls everything in without sacrificing shape lol.

And I'm liking the collection of red guys in the back there. XD

Racerbacks are... T-shirt bras (would maybe ring bells?)... they're the ones that have the straps either crossing or joined to a web-shaped piece of material at the back to pull yer boobs up and in a little. They are really good for shaping *nod*.

You don't need a sports bra to have support ^^;; Just get one that supports/lifts, not necessarily compresses.

I'm wearing such a bra in the photo

Erm, no offense, but it doesn't look that way ^^; You seem to be swinging a bit low.

Underwire doesn't always = support. You also might be wearing the wrong size, which is common, and would negate any supportiveness the bra in itself would offer. Finding a good bra is often the hardest thing wardrobe-wise... I would suggest a professional fitting (a department store will usually do them for free as long as you buy something in the end) to be certain of your size and to get something that does support... the bulk of the support is supposed to come from the banding, and the straps are only supposed to bear 10-20% of the load.

Date: 2006-07-22 01:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] animeangelblue.livejournal.com
yeah, I agree, it honestly does look like you are wearing the wrong size, which is common to 90% of all women...

Best bet to get the proper size, even if you don't buy anything, is to go to a coture shop ((lingerie or otherwise, haven't heard of a department store that does those...)) that does custom fitting, and will help you pick out a proper bra

It'll make you feel a lot better in the end, because you'll have the proper fit that you need.

if that's a usually supportive bra check these before going and buying a new one,
if the corset is sitting higer than the bra band make sure the bra band is snugged under the corset (you want it to sit where it usually would without the corset once you're laced). same goes for the back of the band. i (have to) wear underwires so it's a little different, but i try to keep the wires just below where the top binding finished on the inside of the corset, the little valley between the fabrics helps it stay there. i tug the back band down lower than usual before tightening the laces but after it's in enough to not fall down/firm. and finally, shorten the straps! :)
i think mostly your bra is sitting higher as the corset has pushed things up and you've lost the structural tension. (like the bak's ridden up and the straps are flapping foward). if i'm having a bad day like that, i get my bf to shorten the straps as i lace down. it can be tricky without help though (try to pick one with very elastic straps). but usually, shorten the straps and all's fine (unless you have a siginifcant adversion to being able to rest your chin on your boobs)

this is coordination not hair since i like your hair, with the high collar i think something a little more back from your face would look nice. (headbow, pony tails and ribbons etc)
if you wanted more elegant a look, i think black tights or socks would help a lot. chunkier shoes would help too. i like the light shirt because it adds height but i think ash/ivory/etc would clash less. and add a bracelet. something black and drippy (but that just might be me and my obsesion with shinies)

Perhaps, in addition to the notes on bras above, you can also wear a caplet or some kind that can drape over your chest and hang downwards over the top of the black underbust corset? It would look pretty awesome if it was a similar or very complimentary fabric to the red plaid of your skirt.

That's an adorable skirt! I've always coveted the original Atelier Boz version, and yay for tartan. Also, I think you're really adorable, and I don't think your hair is that bad at all.

Personally, I feel like you're a bit unclear on what kind of image you're trying to portray with your outfit. The combination with that blouse makes it very aristocratic, in which case, I would wear accessories to make it look very mature and elegant. On the other hand, the tartan could make it very punk lolita, in which case I'd wear a black blouse and mary janes. It all depends on what you're trying to go for with the skirt, and I think that there are a lot of directions you could take it.

Your shoes look kind of sweet lolita-ish, which I don't think goes well with the skirt at all, even with the white blouse. I would say either black mary janes or boots would be best.

I think a black blouse, black socks and all black or plaid shoes would look a lot cuter. The white makes the coordinate look strange.

You don't look fat at all to me. As for boobs, a more structured shirt might improve the look, or a more supportive bra (no idea what you're wearing. Bra brand and style usually isn't part of the clothes description. XD ).

That is a great skirt! And you look so happy. I can't really answer the boobage question as I totally wear Mary Kate & Ashley training bras and I'm way too old for them. :p

Coordination-wise, hm, I think I would wear a black top and socks, all black shoes and make a huge red bow to wear at the collar of the top to detract from the boob-area a bit, something like the one here (http://pics.livejournal.com/harlequined/pic/000ksryx) {please, don't lol at my craftiness too much}. I look like a corsetted kid in high-waisted skirts, and I've found a giant bow of some sort takes the attention away from my chest or lack thereof. At any rate, the skirt is lovely. Good luck finding something you really like to match it!

You could always do what they do when wearing a kimono: bind them up! Either some long strips or material or a kimono bra would work well. Making the skirt waist just a few inches shorter would also help as well.

I think a different colored shirt would call less attention to the chest.
Another issue may be that your current bra is not the right size and/or doesn't give enough support.

For sizing apparently the best way to measure is to measure around the band (underneath the bust), then the bust itself. The amount of inches the bust differs from the band is the cup size and the number before that is the band measurement. So for example, if you were 36" band and your bust is 38", you would be a 36B (1" difference is A cup, 2" is B, etc.)
If you already knew that, I apologize for going on about it, it's just that I think a lot of women wear the wrong size (too big or too small)..I know I did until I found out how to get the correct measurements.

A long line bra as mentioned may work quite well..perhaps you could also pull the corset down a bit (if possible). Perhaps a pushup bra would lift them up enough to make it seem less awkward?

I'm not sure, but I do love the skirt and I think if you fixed this small issue it would look *Amazing* on you. :3

{I'm popping out of lurker-land to post this. Hi! ^^)

I'm just wanting to offer my own advice on the boobie-issue as a fattie-chan who has a large chest. ^^

Are the cups of your bra made out of a material or made in such a way that it's stretchy?

Sounds silly, but I tried to wear a bra that was like that once and it was a bad, bad thing. I have big fat girl boobs that sag naturally because of their size/weight and a stretchy bra cup just can't hold them up, so I'd look like an old lady if I tried to wear one. Not pretty at all.

As a sort of example of what I mean, the bras I wear all have lace on them. Besides being pretty, heh, the lace on the fabric of the cups makes it so they can't stretch at all since the lace isn't stretchy. The cup itself isn't actually molded, but the non-stretchyness of it means that it can actually hold thing in place where they belong instead of the weight stretching the material out.

And I know you already mentioned not liking underwires but I'm a bit fan of them, and though I'm sure you've heard it already, they really don't poke you as long as you're wearing the right size and shape for you - when I was in middle/high school I always knew when I's grown and needed new bras cause all of them would start poking me in the arm, heh.

Also, I took a look at your info and saw that you're in NYC, so figured I'd throw in that I've heard a lot of good things about Town Shop (http://townshop.com/index.shtml) from people who've gone there. All they do is bras so they've gotta know what they're talking about, heh. Never been myself as I am lacking in funds, but I plan to make a trip into the city sometime when I have money to go there.

I personally say don't bother with going to a regular store for a bra fit only because, well, I work at Lane Bryant and they make a big deal out of how 'all of our workers are trained to do a perfect bra fit!!' and really, we're not. Our training is watching some 10-minute video about bras styles and all we do is a quick crappy measurement around the body and your boobs that you could do yourself at home in 10 seconds, heh, so I personally don't trust any place that offers bra fits that isn't just a bra store. I don't know about department stores, though, they may have some kind of actual training.

Man, I'm babbling. Sorry about that. So, uh - in short, bras with non-stretchy cups = good things. ^_^

I really like that skirt; it looks quite nice on you. And I know you said no comments on your hair, but I love the color. ^^ It's so pretty!

As for the situation with your breasts (I think I might be the only person who *actually* said "breasts" here... ^^;), you could always try a fitting at Victoria's Secret. I was going to work there, and so they have to tell us about the way you fit bras at the interview. They're pretty good, anyways.

And I know a few weeks ago they were having their semi-annual sale; maybe they still are?

Dude, as a NY loli, I reccomend you go to one of those old lady bra shops. I do and I love it. Old jewish women (hearts! hearts to the bubbehs!) whiisk a measuring tape around you are they can tell if you're right or wrong just by looking at you. Look for one on the lower east side, I love these places. >_>;

Chica. To fix the boobs, get a proper underwire or pushup, that does -not- stretch or sag. Make sure that the straps are comfortable, too, you don't want dents in your shoulders. It'll be much more flattering.

However, I absolutely adore the skirt.

Did you notice that all four pictures are you in the same exact pose? That's what she means. Like, it would be nice to be able to see you from perhaps another angle. Other side. Front. Slight back. Curtsying. Vogue it up some. It's boring when you give the same smile from the same angle for four different shots. Might as well just put up one instead of four since it's essentially the same thing in quadruplicate. I think that's what she means.

Accessories help a lot. A fan, maybe? A squirming pet? A much un-loved younger sibling? Umbrella? Cup of tea? Coffee pot?
