Hi again everyone! ^^ I'd like to say thanks to everyone who replied to my last post, you all helped a whole lot! ^^ After some consideration I've chosen to buy from that "Your mother wouldn't like it" website instead; their merchandise seems nicer and my family doesn't like ordering online overseas anyway. ^^

So now I have a few more queries. ^^;; This time they involve color combos and accessorizing!

^^ First of all, color combinations- I've been told black and white leans a little more towards Cosplay Loli. Though I favored black and white, it's not that big a deal for me to switch to a different preferred combination- I only liked that combination for two rather insignificant reasons: 1) The contrast made the details stick out a bit more (to me), and 2) When I first got into GothLoli, I mostly saw b&w, so it influenced me a bit. I came to think black and white was a default for Gothic Lolita.

So, are there any combinations anyone suggests? ^^ I thought maybe I should use white and light blue, but does that seem Sweet Lolita-ish? Also, I never really liked dressing all one color (i.e. everything is black) because I thought it masked some details a bit x_x. Additionally I have the issue of my glasses- they're thick black frames. I'm severely nearsighted and terrified of contacts ^^;;; (I'm not allowed to have them anyway). Would it be alright for them to clash with my nolongerblackandwhite dress?

And now for accessorizing ^^. Again, I'm still kind of new to the Lolita fashion. Since I've been told lace gloves are a no, I'm still figuring out what else might go well. How 'bout those lace cuffs? I'm not sure how to explain them, but I've seen them. Would white pearls go well? I'm not sure what else there is besides those and crosses ^^;;. Also, I love those mini beaded crowns- but what accessories should I put on to make it look fitting to an outfit? Lastly, any additional accessorizing tips? ^^

Thanks much in advance! <33

It wasn't the color scheme, it was the dress itself. I mean: http://www.babyssb.co.jp/shopping/onepiece/129314/129314-bw.jpg definitely not cosplay. You may want to look into good brand items for blackxwhite. I think blackxwhite seems good for you, you like it, and it matches your glasses.

Lace cuffs are good, I'm in the process of ordering some. I wear white pearls too. Hello kitty jewelry is good for the sweet lolita style. I think those oversized bows on a headband look the best, I'm not a fan of headdresses or hats, and I think the big bows work for everyone too.

The black and white combination if done correctly can look very classy. However, I think many b&w lolita combinations can come off looking like a maid or cosplay "costume". I personally prefer straight black if going for a gothic lolita look and pastel colors with white accents for a sweet look. In essence though wear what you feel most comfortable in and what you like.

Is there a problem with looking sweet? ;p
If you still want to use black, you can pair up pretty much any color with it. Red and black is the most used color combo. My favorite most of the time is royal blue and black.

Your glasses clashing with your dress is a non-issue - enough people are used to seeing people in glasses that unless your glasses look bad on -you-, no one should have anything to say about how they don't match your clothes.

Don't avoid black and white just because it -can- look cosplay-ish. Anything can look cosplayish if it's done wrong. Even head-to-toe Moitie will look cosplayish if you wear it with messy hair, bad makeup, no stockings, and dirty track shoes. If you feel more comfortable in black and white, and/or think you'd have an easier time accessorizing black and white, go for black and white.

If you do go black and white, though, stay away from things like aprons, pinafores, and shoulder frills that look like maid or waitress cosplay.

Personally I thought that bodyline dress would be a great beginner outfit, especially if, as it looked, the collar and sleeves came off so it could also be a jumperskirt. If you look for another dress, look for something like this, or a two-piece outfit, so you can wear it in different ways.

Your accessories depend entirely on which dress(es) you choose. Don't just wear an accessory because it looks Lolita, and don't discount something just because it's not a traditional Lolita brand or motif. If you choose a casual dress, wear the same amount and types of accessories you'd wear with a normal casual outfit. If your dress is more formal, you can dress up your accessories a bit more.

No lace gloves? Who says that? I long for all of fashion to return to an era of wearing hats and gloves, so I don't see why you couldn't wear them if you liked them.

Hey, no worries. The brain, she is a fickle mistress.

*blinks* Hmm... are you going for Gothic Lolita and that's why you're avoiding Sweet Lolita? Not to sound rude or anything... just ruling out possibilities for colour combos if you don't want to look Sweet Lolita.

Glasses are never an issue- especially with black frames and Goth Loli. And I absolutely adore lace gloves, so I don't understand how other people wouldn't. White pearls work great... I love using them in multiple strings, usually with a cross, at the waist.

Black and white is a really classic theme, I think, although another popular one (as mentioned already) is black and red. Other combinations would be purple and black, royal blue and black, forest green and black, etc.

Sweet Lolita... well, there's a lot more colour combos there to be had, methinks.

Have you consitered wearing black and a nice cranberry crimson color? If your not wanting sweet and you dont want just black and white you can do other color combonations like a deep red with creme lace or that same deep red with black accents.

You could even wear a washed out lavender with some sage and creme assesories if you wanted something lighter but not the traditional blue pink and black

I've been told black and white leans a little more towards Cosplay Loli

That's not true. Black and white has been the egl classic color combination for years, sure it's boring because it's everywhere but that doesn't make it cosplay. It depends on the outfit. Some bodyline black and white outfits are indeed cosplay looking. Also if you are going for black and white make sure it's a high quality outfit or else it will look horrible. Black + black is the best color combination if you lack the funds. Anything black anc black works. I have two dresses that i got in goth stores the lace is horrible but you can't tell because it's just all black. :X haha

Any other opinion on outfits for example, just ask.

Btw, glasses look good with egl, especially sweet lolita because they make you look cute.

Black and White CAN be made to look good. The trick is in the 'And'.

Never, ever, ever, ever ever ever try and do an outfit where the colour balance is 50:50. Or at least I don't reccomend it. A black dress with white lace details, or a white dress with black embroidery - this is good! But a black dress that's got so many white ruffles that the colour balance is nearly 50:50 is asking for trouble.

Light blue/white and pink/white (Or the other way around - I.E. Mostly white with pink details rather than mostly pink with white details) are really popular colour combinations too, but there's no reason why you can't pick any two complimentary colours. If you want black to match your glasses, well, what goes with black? Almost everything. Emerald green, dark purple and tea-stained cream are just three I can think of off the top of my head that I think work really well with black details.

Now, I Like lace gloves, but I guess a lot of people think they're cheap and/or too much like Mana cosplay, so I say if you can get nice lace gloves (I.E. not synthetic) then wear them. But lace cuffs would work well too, especially with a short sleeved dress for the summer. Pearls would work great if you're wearing a white dress, especially if you were also wearing pearl earrings or had pearl details on your dress. Generally speaking, when it comes to accessories, I try and choose something that has something in common with the dress, not just the right colours. If we run with the pearls, for example, say a dress with pearl bead detailing, then a pearly beaded crown, pearl earrings and maybe a pearl bracelet would work really well. I think beaded crowns tend to work better if you're wearing a matching beaded bracelet or something, so it's not the ONLY beaded thing.

I hope that helps! I have a tendancy to ramble a littl ^.^;;
