(tell me if this post is ok)

i've been wanting to make a hand muff - you know, it's a tube of fur you use instead of mittens - out of monster fur(!) for a while. does anyone have any patterns or ideas on how to make one? i'm not a big sewing-person but i'd be willing to spend some quality time laboring. :)

You should be able to find a pattern if you go to a fabric store and look a little. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I remember my friend making one when we took sewing together in high school (it was adorable!) but I can't remember the pattern number or who it was by... In any case, if she found one, you should be able to pretty easily. If you want to try to do it with out a pattern, it should be pretty easy to figure out, just test different things out with some cheap fabric first. =)

For a really simple one, cut a long rectangle of fur, about twice as long as you'd want the muff to be, sew along the longer edges so you have a looong cylinder, turn it so the fur is on the outside then fold the overlong edges inside the cylinder until they meet in the middle. Then sew ribbon or macrame rope onto the edges if you'd like and tada! Simple muff with little-to-no scratchiness on the inside!

Many of the well-known pattern companies have patterns for mufflers. :) Any Wal-Mart or local sewing/fabric stores should have them for sale; check their pattern books for the actual numbers. Simplicity.com isn't loading on my computer for some reason. They are probably doing site maintenance right now. >_

oh my goodness, i have been thinking about making muffs as well. it reminds me of an old clueless tv show episode. they made them will little pockets in the front, but a secret pocket sounds nice too! they were so cute!! i think it is a wonderful idea :)

Didn't one of the GL Bibles have a fur muffler with a fur headdress with bear-ears attached to it? I seem to remember that, but I'm not quite sure... I'm at work right now, so I don't have my Bibles on hand to look.
