>_< What the hell is happening?
Nov. 25th, 2003 06:41 pmOn E-bay, I found a halter top, a "punk" striped baby T, an Espirit knee skirt, a Lip Service straight skirt, a turtleneck, a short sleeve dress you could find at Hot Topic, and two maid accessories also labelled under 'fetish'. What's wrong with this picture? These are all under the keyword of 'gothic lolita' and are very clearly not. >_< All right, how many people understand what Gothic Lolita means and how many people are just trying to sell their crap?
While I'm at it, my apologies for those who are offended, but why are square dance dresses qualified as EGL? Honestly, it's cheap and not elegant at all. It's like buying a Prada bag from one of the street dealers in Manhattan for $10 and saying it's the real deal. I'm sure if you changed its appearance and modified the look, it'd turn into something quite nice, but until then, it's like saying a cow is a horse just because it also has four legs. (For the record, I love 'em both.)

Date: 2003-11-26 03:48 pm (UTC)I didn't really mean to drag the good name of american goths through the mud... afterall, I am one.
But you know how snotty the scene can be!
Maybe the scene isn't so much like that out west where you live, but it can be ridiculously snotty and nasty here. T___T

[I just tend to reply on a spur too... i never re read my work..i find that when i do everything changes significantly... and it truly wrecks the emotional out-put i initially use it for.]

Date: 2003-11-26 07:01 pm (UTC)I would agree with you to a point that goth is like punk in that they are both dead, but then again, I disagree. It is true, old sk00l goth and punk are both long dead, but the subcultures live on in new evolved forms. There is pop-goth and pop-punk, but that's not what I'm talking about. There is still a strong goth scene in the U.S. as well as a punk scene that have nothing to do with mainstream cultue. The new version of the goth scene is very like the old, it just has new trends and music for a new set of people. Bands like the Cruxshadows have replaced Stabbing Westward, but the people and their attitude are still the same. I really hope I am making any amount of sense at all.
Ah well... cheers to the good old days when good little goths weren't allowed to wear baggy raver pants.
*raises a toast and feels old*

Date: 2003-11-27 12:37 pm (UTC)Not terribly germaine to the thread, but...
Date: 2003-12-03 12:28 am (UTC)Generally speaking, I agree with what you say... but implying that Stabbing Westward was ever goth, much less *old school* goth makes me want to scour my eyeballs with brillo pads... or at least have a good, stiff drink. ;D
Listen... can you hear that? It's Rozz Williams kicking in his grave. ;}
For the record, the CXS have been around at least as long as Stabbing Westward, though obviously w/o the mainstream commercial success.
Also for the record, *all* subcultures, or groups of people in general, are snotty & nasty & catty to one another. People suck wherever you go, you just tend to notice it more in the circles in which you most closely associate.
