I am trying to lose some weight in order to fit in most BTSSB jumpers, most of which can fit up to a 28 inch waist. Right now I am 30", but I would really like a short term solution until I lose some inches (and because, well, bloating always does some unkind things to me). A friend suggested to get a waist cincher. Does anyone here use one to fit into egl clothes? What type do you use, the cheap-o nylon ones, or the corset types? How does sizing work? Or, does anyone else have a quick fix for losing waist inches? It's a very pesky thing, being on the borderline of fitting a dress and not. Thanks for any help in advance.

In order to fit the skirts, you have to be like 26". A corset is the only option, girdles and stuff won't cinch enough, neither will those latex things from what I can gather. And a good, comfortable, corset will run a few hundred.

I have that dress and I'm a 25 inch waist, but I think you have to go less than 28 inches, since you have to have room for the blouse and comfort for yourself!

Oh ok, even then, being 27 might be best. If you just fit in the max measurements, it may be a little uncomfortable. We all need some breathing room.

there is no such thing as spot-loss, as in even if you worked out one arm all day every day for a week the other arm will loose weight as well. your body has natural symetry so if you loose in one place you will loose everywhere (but if you did just work out one spot you would get more muscular there BUT the complimentary area will loose weight and not gain muscle)

depending how much you weight loosing 10-15lbs might drop you down about two inches in the waist area.

also a cheap nylon waist cincher will only smooth you out, not like take away any inches.

For those more expensive brands, I think it will be a LOT cheaper if you just get it custom made. I know it'll be dissapointing since its not marked with a brand, but itll look just the same.

I know a lady that only charges around $70 Australian dollars )around $55 USD I think?) to make a dress. All you pay for is the $55~ USD and for material. Heck, you can even send her your own material. She specializes in lolita stuff and says it only takes around 3 hours for her to make. I'm waiting for my material to come, so I can send it to her and get her to make a replica of the Metamorphose Gobelin Print Dress.

If its well made, I'll put up her contact details ^^ (She said that I should only put it up if I like the dress, just to be fair to the customers)

But yeah, the point of this long ramble is to say that its a lot cheaper to have it custom made, and you can actually fit into it seeing as you give them YOUR sizes, not the site's sizes ^^

I wear a waist cincher that's too big for me to even out my form (I have a huge ribcage and an unnaturally small waist for my body type and it evens the ribcage out) a few friends of mine have found that the crappy waist cinchers from wal-mart and places add much more bulk than they remove. In my case, that's a positive. However, if you're looking to cinch more than an inch or so, get a corset.

Meschantes is a *very* good corset maker. Check them out on ebay. I just got one of their underbust styles for $112.50 total, which is pretty good for a real corset.

I had a 30 inch waist somewhere around a year to six months ago and now it's a 28"~28.5". Have you considered light dieting? Maybe check out the Sacred Heart diet. There are some comms with information about it here on lj.

I've tried the sacred heart diet before~ I lost some weight, and then gained it again u___u;;; while I was on the diet, my dad tried to tempt me with good food ;__; every night it was like "This looks so good eh?".

I tried convincing my mom, but she kept on cheating during the entire thing, so she didn't lose any weight at all =/

If you type in "sacred heart diet" on google, there should be a lot of websites that give you the instructions.

http://www.idiet4u.com/diets/sacredheart.html (http://www.idiet4u.com/diets/sacredheart.html)

^-- here ya go :)

Basically, it's a diet that the hospitals use to help their overweight patients lose weight drastically before heart surgery (hence the name)

The diet is good because you don't need to starve yourself to death ^^~ there's a soup that you have to make (it's listed in the recipe) and each day you eat a certain category of foods. Whatever you do, DO NOT CHEAT!! you will gain the weight you lost quickly if you cheat x__x;;

In regards to the diet, I don't really think it's a good idea as I took a cooking class and we did projects on diets and people found it unsafe also I found this link when looking for how safe it was:

http://www.shmc.org/index.php/page/298

So, apparantly, you'd end up gaining the weight back anyways... And it'd be unhealthy for you.

Well.. I have a natural 27 inch waist but with my waist cincher I can go down to about 20 inches. But I assure this is a feat of amazing porportions and a period of time of fidgeting with laces and tightening where appropriate. Most cinchers or corsets on average should take atleast 3-4 inches off your waist though. Make sure it's not the crappy poly plastic boning though. Faeryn's Grove is pretty good though.

i own one of their waist cinchers and unless their corset making skills went up alot in the past two years or so (i cant tell from the website) the waist cincher doesnt do alot of cinching.

i think maybe 1 to 2 inches MAX if even that. mine does have steel boning in it though, even if its more of a fashion cincher then anything else.

I have a pretty cheap thing of stretchy fabric & plastic boning. Came from Macy's sucks away 6cm of my waist

Maybe you could buy the skirt and just use the zipper trick until you lose the weight?

Date: 2006-05-14 10:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] missnightshade.livejournal.com
It's something like zipping the back of the skirt up part way, until it's closed as much as it can be, pinning it, then hiding the open part of the zipper with a blouse or jacket.

A drag queen once told me, that if you're not going for the corset-look but just want a tiny waist, that you just as well can put a belt or similar around your waist, and pull it tight.
A very good cinching corset will run around $300, i guess, so you'd have to pay double the price to fit into your jsk.
I'd say get it custom made, and then loose weight on your own pace. You can always buy brandname once you're sure it'll fit :)

From: [identity profile] weeefairy.livejournal.com
this is true, but you shouldnt try it with a regular belt though xD

there are wide belts availeble made specially for making your waist small, however as for this dress that wouldnt work. they probably expect you to be kind of proportional for the dress, rather then having a huge ribcage and then a much smaller waist xD

some 24/7 tightlacers wear those belts when theyre sporting or something because obviously you cant do that in a corset.

a good made to measure underbust corset that is cheap can be 200 dollars, or cheaper on ebay. do expect to pay more then $100 though.

From: [identity profile] rocococious.livejournal.com
If you go for something like an underbust corset rather than just a cincher, I'd imagine that could do the trick if the material wasn't too bulky. The right design and boning can take off about 4 inches without training. I don't understand dollars of any kind, at all ... but around here (UK), a decent one will set you back something like £80-90. If you were to get one custom-made, you could probably get it done in nice fabrics that would match with what you're hoping to wearit with. ^^

Well, I imagine she'd be putting it under the dress because fitting into it is the problem in the first place, so she wouldn't have to worry about it matching her outfit. n_n;

Date: 2006-05-14 03:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rocococious.livejournal.com
True, but dark coloured fabric would probably show through that. (And, hey, what's wrong with matching your underwear to your outfit, just in case? XD)

It's the same for me too ;__;

I hate being on the borderline of being able to fit and not being able to fit!

The good thing about loli clothes is that at least I don't have to worry about my hips >__>;;; *is disproportional*

I should go and exercise and lose weight~~ then I won't be on the borderline anymore xDD

I know, borderline is the worst ever. T__T

Yeah, I'm like half Puerto Rican so my hips are BADONK! by default. ._. Although they're really not as bad as some, I still have trouble sometimes with pants.

I should, too. xD;; I hate being like this. I'm just so lazeee~~ But I think I will after finals during the summer when I have more time. >_> (*has about two weeks left*)

i am also 30 inches!! u___u;;;
what's REALLY embarrassing is... my mom's like "why don't you borrow this nice pleated long skirt i wore before i came to canada" and i was like "how old were you?" (just out of curiousity) and she's like "hmm, 28. a couple years after i had you." and it's a 60 cm waist which i couldn't fit into at age 15! *shame* T^T
I really think living in a westernized country makes you into bad shape A LOT. 6 years after coming to canada my mom became a NA size 6, and now she stabilizing at size 8 (my size... T^T'').

i hope i will lose a lot of weight at university, since then i'll be forced to walk, bike, or take the bus everywhere! + not live in a stupid suburb 30 minutes from a convenient store.

I know...me too. And the worst part is, I can tell I could diet as much as I wanted, and I'd never have a smaller waist--it's very narrow compared to the rest of me (41' hips arrrrgh) and there's no fat there.

I'm just always going to be a taaad too big for some dresses.

Of course, my wide-ass shoulders don't help either...

Date: 2006-05-15 12:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayameh.livejournal.com
Yeah, I think even if I lost some weight and the high percentage of body fat I'll still have a thick-ish waist because I have a wide ribcage. ;_; Oh poo.

Even if I was in perfect shape with like 6% body fat, I don't think I'd be able to fit into Mary Magdalene or Moi-meme-moitie because I'm just too wide in the ribs.

If you're looking for a very sturd corset suitable for waist traning i can direct you to the "Corsetry" or the "Corsetmakers" LJ communities.
You can post there asking for a custom order or just look around and ask the girls if they have some good advices. Most of the members of those communities are experienced corset makers and they can also guide you in your waist training journey ^^
Anyway, mind that the cost of a custom corset is really high.. but some of them are work of art in my opinion so they are worth the price. ^^
