Hey, I don't know if anyone on this group would be able to help me with this, but I had a dress design I was considering making, and it involves sleeves which it would be nice to make removable. How do you do that? I was just assuming snaps, but if anyone has more specific advice on it, I'd apreciate it. Also, I wanted to make the big front part a seperate piece that buttons in the back and just goes over the rest of the dress, and I was thinking of giving the dress a rounded collar (peter-pan style, i guess you call them) in the dress body color, that could stick out over the big white piece. Any opinions on this? I'm not sure if it would look good or not, I'm just trying to figure out how I would go about actually constructing this dress in real fabric.

Thanks ^^

For the sleeves, I've been pondering too how to make good, comfortable removable sleeves. I haven't tried it yet, but what I was thinking was instead of elastic, where the top poof ends, I would gather it onto a band, and add another band on top - a double-layered band as it were, and use snaps sewn to the inside of one of the bands, so hidden for neatness, and not in contact with your skin for comfort.
For the rest of it, it looked at first to me to be a pinafore, with a white shirt with a *huge* collar underneath, but I'm sure it's easy to make it all as one piece too, and just have the collar a separate piece. I like the idea of a smaller pink collar over the big white one. So then it would just be a dress with sleeves and collar and slits in skirt, with separate collar and petticoat/skirt?
I'm sure it'll look adorable!

Go look at wedding gown designs, some of them have removable sleeves, though it might take some searching to find a style that does. generally they'll snap, and in some midevil(ish) clothing the sleeves laced in. With the front collar/bib of this one, it's not going to matter too much how you do it as the seam looks like it'll be mostly covered by the bib. The mian problem is going to be with the design of the sleeve, it's going to be difficult to get it to sit right on your arm with that poofiness. The elastic mentioned earlier might work, but my concern is going to be it gathering uncomfortably in the arm pit. I'd consider even moutning snnaps on little lengths of elastic for the underside, so it'd snap in and be held at the bottom (so you don't flash people with armpit when you move), but it'd give enough that you could move without having fitting issues at the cuff.
