Is anyone else sick of the proliferation of entirely non-EGL related stuff in this community? I don't mean to be elitist or pick on anyone in particular, but I joined this community to see pictures of other girls' loli outfits, get tips, and discuss the fashion. I didn't join this group in order to get large photos of fruitsy or adult baby clothes advertising ebay auctions on my friends' page. There are groups for both of these fashion movements -- I do not see the EGL community (stands for "Elegant Gothic Lolita", right?) as an appropriate place for these particular ads. (And it isn't just a one-time thing; I'm only bringing it up because there are always one or two (or more) of these posts every time I check my friends' list).

I'm not a moderator, so obviously I can't dictate a new rule, but I would like to appeal to the moderator to either institute a stay-on-topic/EGL, EGA- only rule or have a community poll to decide the issue democratically.

Thanks.

I agree. There's a difference between being elitist and liking to stay within the topic range.

and that's one of the reasons [livejournal.com profile] metamorphique was started, right?

but i find it completely annoying that people are trying to push their ugly ebay stuff as "gothic lolita" just to get gullible people to buy it.

Yes. A good portion of the stuff advertised by various eBay sellers is not remotely EGL. The fact that some of it is does not give those lasses the excuse to clog our friends pages with garish pictures of their products. I think they should at least put their ads behind cuts.

I completely agree. Seeing auctions posted on here for makeup and Fruitsy things really annoy me...

I post my auctions frequently, auctions for things that are EGL, lolita-inspired, or lolita-related. I have received no complaints. If it bothers people, you're free to tell me. I try to keep my collages small and not overly obtrusive, and try not to post more than once a week, twice at most. If the community wants to institute limitations on image size or that auction images must be behind a cut, I won't be bothered by it. Perhaps someone with a journal code could do what the fruits community did-- create an offshoot community just for auctions (fruitsyauctions in their case)?

That's a good idea! A community for an online RPG I play did this; people overflowed the main comm with questions about item prices in-game. I see no reason we can't create an "EGL price check" forum! ♡

Following the same basic principle, I mean, heh. ;D I got carried away with my excitement. I may have an extra code lying around, so if someone doesn't do it first, I'll make an offshoot EGL comm specifically for auctions. egl_auctions should work. Ne?

I think this is a great idea and I have an extra code if its needed. I'm just not cool enough to know how to make the community all spiffy so I'd leave that up to someone else.

well there has to be at least one person reading this who knows how and has a tiny bit of free time to whip a community up...hopefully

i'm not super-skilled with layouts, but i have time on my hands to actually moderate it, and i can at least make colors look decent and such things. if no one else wants to or is able to do it, i will. egl_auctions seems necessary at this point.

Honestly, I'm just annoyed at one of the sellers because she posted a very disturbing picture to link to her auctions, and she didn't reply to my request for her to lj-cut it. =\ Aside from that, I'm alright with the eBay postings, because they've helped me find quite a number of dresses I want... Not that I could actually afford them, but seeing them gives me ideas for the future, when I learn to sew. :3

(And you're right; it's not too hard to join and follow another community. >_> Yarrr. People.)

My goodness I agree so very much. I never said anything as I would sound like a bitch.
But so far I have seen roughly at Most twelve auctions listed here I would concider EGL?
Since I joined that is. Everything else is just... not.
Rules and guide lines would be apreciated.

agreed. the posts in egl are starting to annoy me. it's difting farther and farther away from the topic and i'm afraid that all the new people who stumble into this community would get the wrong idea of what elegant gothic lolita is all about. :sigh: i like lolita-esque stuff, don't get me wrong. i'd just like to see more "elegant gothic lolita" related stuff too.

I couldn't agree more. It would be one thing if these auctions were truely egl stuff but they rarely are. And it would also not be so bad if they were behind a livejournal cut. It drives me freakin crazy. But I too didn't want to come off as a bitch so I just dealt with it thinking that it was just a me thing.

Yah! I'm so very glad many people feel the same way- Ebay posts , (if not exceptionally beautiful or unusual) can get very very tiresome if you never use it - I didn't join this community to see auctions for Day-glo eye shadows and paul frank wallets. I think a separate community for ebay auctions + shopping is an excellent idea- so you can check at your leisure : )

I'm sick of ebay ads even if they *are* indubitably EGL. If the ads were moved to another community I'd be thrilled. I will never buy ANY of that stuff no matter how perfectly EGL/EGA it is. I don't buy clothes online or by mail-order, *ever*, because I'm picky about the fit/hang of clothes and know from hard experience that even things which ought to fit perfectly according to measurements frequently look mediocre-to-bad when they're tried on.

I do realize that most ebay sellers make an effort to make their ads unobtrusive and viewer-friendly, and it's definitely appreciated. Still, as someone who is not a potential customer, it's tiresome to wade through them anyway. It would be great if there was a community for buying/selling so people who ARE interested can browse conveniently.

I don't really mind it when people post ebay text links to their auctions when it's specifically EGL stuff, but the picture ads with random goth clothing and such are annoying. I appreciate if people go through and talk about EGL stuff they find on ebay, but not if people are just hawking their goods to all the goth-ish communities on LJ.

wow, I think I am one of the only ones who does not mind the add's....
I have a friends group for this and a few other communities, where I have grown to expect looking at add's... they give me ideas for things I can make.
