well i've posted before, but never introduced myself. my name is danyelle, im 21 and i live in southern california. i got into lolita culture about 3 years ago, fell in love at first sight, but never had the guts to dress till about last year. i loove H.Naoto (blood), Miho Matsuda, Visible, Maxicimam, Kazuko Ogawa, Antique Beast, Putumayo (i adore the contrasting demon/angel wing collared blouses, if only i could fit the bust!!) and of course BtSSB, Metamorphose and Moi-Meme-Moitie, although i dont think i am sweet or elegant enough to wear that style yet. actually there is this M-M-M replica dress on ebay that would fit me but it is made in this icky satin. i do not like that satin look, too adult baby. i listen to alot of J-rock, but my main interest is hardcore. it is so differnt because the hardcore scene is so masculine. imagine a whole bunch of sweaty guys at a show dancing and singing and you being one of the 20 girls. it so fun though. but just like the rest of modern society, the majority of females in the hardcore scene like to do the normal thing. shows off bellies and clevage and as much skin as they think is sexy. even though it is very improtant to me, the messages and lifestyle carried through the HC scene, it is sad to see people make it cheap. (i am sure you guys feel the same way about EGL fashion when someone calls a tight pvc skirt "sexy gothic lolita"). that is not me, i cover everything on a normal day with a band shirt and jeans. maybe that is what appeals to me about EGL fashion. knee length skirts, non pludging neck lines, frilly socks, looking innocent, looking respectful and refined (although my mannerisms need some help in the politeness and refined area). anywho, it is something i love, that helps me escape from what im used to, it lets me feel carefree, lovely, pretty, girly. all things a woman needs, even in her 20s.
soon i will post some pictures of me in my clothing, i'v been sewing since a little girl. i used to be sooo mad at my mother for making me go to sewing class on saturdays, now i am grateful.
i know it is a couple weeks away, but i would love to go to the EGL meetings in LA. but i have work in the morning. BUT me being a little mxican girl i will be on olvera st in the afternoon, so if you see a girl in almost full putumayo gear, come say hi. i would go to the club, but i am not to keen on "western" goth culture or the types ofmusicthey play at that club. so i stick to club beat it on sundays. i know 80's and lolita do not mix, but i cannot keep from dancing to echo and the bunnymen and the smiths!

So I just got my parasol in the mail today: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2860637209
And I got my skirt the day before yesterday: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2860799757
If all goes well I’ll win these and just be able to pick them up from her since she lives in the same town as me: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2862019075&category=45334&rd=1
because the nifty maryjanes that I bought off ebay last time were only a size 8 and don’t fit at all.
I already bought my shirt at the thrift store and I got the knee highs from hot topic. So now I am in serious need of a petticoat. I have a white one, a light blue one and lavender one. I was originally planning on having the trim for my costume be light blue and then I’d just use the petticoat I already had but that parasol was just so lovely and only ten bucks so I had to have. So now the trim is going to be red and there for the petticoat needs to be red or black would do. My friend has a red petticoat but she doesn't kow where it is so I’ll probably just have to buy one off ebay and cross my fingers that it gets here in time unless you guys know of any places I can buy one that will be able to have it shipped to San Jose, CA by Halloween. I bought fabric to make a collar and a headpiece thingy but still need to buy black lace and red ribbon to sew onto everything.

My boyfriend's cosutme:
We already bought the top hat http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&ITEM=271615 and the coat http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&ITEM=118435 (ignore retarded vampire-ness and the fact that the picture quality is crap) He already has pants that will work. I think he needs better boots though. I'm seriously hoping I win the auction for this shirt http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2862551698&category=4156&rd=1 because I think its perfect. Then all I need to do is sew on some matching red ribbon trim and he's set.

Is anyone else sick of the proliferation of entirely non-EGL related stuff in this community? I don't mean to be elitist or pick on anyone in particular, but I joined this community to see pictures of other girls' loli outfits, get tips, and discuss the fashion. I didn't join this group in order to get large photos of fruitsy or adult baby clothes advertising ebay auctions on my friends' page. There are groups for both of these fashion movements -- I do not see the EGL community (stands for "Elegant Gothic Lolita", right?) as an appropriate place for these particular ads. (And it isn't just a one-time thing; I'm only bringing it up because there are always one or two (or more) of these posts every time I check my friends' list).

I'm not a moderator, so obviously I can't dictate a new rule, but I would like to appeal to the moderator to either institute a stay-on-topic/EGL, EGA- only rule or have a community poll to decide the issue democratically.

Thanks.

i know eveybody here loves the brand names, but what about those small "other" brands? ^__^ some of the designs from those less known seamtresses/accessory makers can be quite unique! anyway, here's the link to a webring called lolita brand webring. it's in japanese only but i used http://excite.co.jp/world/url to translate the pages (just click on the second circle first). enjoy! =^.^=

Myu! I've been meaning to write this up for a while... gomen, I'm lazy. ^-^;;;

I ordered recently from In The Starlight. I got a white heart pinafore with heart pockets and a pink bonnet.

First of all, the girls are VERY very nice and helpful; they even added the pockets just for me since I thought it would be cute! *hearts* Very prompt, and super-quick in getting the order made and shipped.

Now, for the pieces themselves: they're both made very sturdily and cutely, and good quality for the low price. I must warn that they are not exactly... polished, ne?

The lace isn't finished (turned over and sewn down, at least that's how I finish it) and the pink bonnet has white thread stitches. O_o The hem-stitches on the pinafore aren't straight -- the HEM is very straight, but the stitches aren't all even. That said, I'm thrilled with them; they are definitely as good/better than I could make, and they are sturdy and cute and well worth the price. AND arrived super promptly. Not professional, but super-super cute!

^_^ Definitely worth it; I am looking forward to more designs from them!

I'm much of a lurker, but, just now I was looking through some cosplay sites, and realise that so many supposed "egl" outfits look overdone and tacky. EGL as a style is positively beautiful, yet when people make their outfits- yes, it may be frilly, lacey, and cute. But there's a difference between having frills tastefully done, to having lace sewn EVERYWHERE. To me, at least, elegant gothic lolita isn't defined as "frilly" clothing and, not to sound egotistical, if I were to make a lolita outfit, I'd be sure to keep the frills, ruffles and lace down to a simple tasteful accent....

My Doll #2 and #3 books (shown with #1, which I already had) came in a couple days ago. I had ordered them from Fujisan.com and had an excellent experience. It only took them about 3 weeks to get to me, which is really fast considering they had to come to their US warehouse from Japan before they were sent to me. Shipping cost was also very reasonable at just $9.23 for the two books. The books themselves were also very reasonable at $9.70 and $9.50 each, which is very little above the 924Y and 905Y they retail for in Japan.

So thats my mini review. I will DEFINITELY be ordering from them again if the usual place I shop (www.otaku.com) doesn't have what I'm looking for. ^_^
