GLB pattern help please
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:56 pm
I recently bought some patterns from the Gothic Lolita Bibles, but I am having trouble making heads or tails of them. Can those who have used these patterns please help me out?
This is what the patterns look like. As you can see it is quite different from an American pattern. All the lines overlap, and even though they are color coded, it is still dificult to figure out. There are picture of the garments that can be made in the margins of the pattern, but since all the lines overlap, does this mean I can only make one of these garments?
I am sorry if this has been discussed before. I found little helpful info in the memories section (unless I missed something). So can someone please help me to understand how to use these patterns? If I can, I'd like to make more than one of the garments shown. There are lovely blouse and dress patterns here and I want to make them all, not just one. Thank you!

Date: 2006-02-09 05:13 am (UTC)Whatever you do, don't cut the sheet! They're overlapped because you're supposed to trace out the pattern pieces on a seperate piece of paper. That's the way that a lot of the Asian and European patterns are. You also need to add seam allowance. The pattern is multisized so you can adjust it to yourself somewhat.
Oh it's actually from a Gosu Rori mook, not a Gothic & Lolita Bible.

Date: 2006-02-09 05:39 am (UTC)If you have some base sewing skills, it's not very hard to figure out how the basic pattern pieces fit together, but you can only make a few items. The mook is definetly useful, and also includes things like tutorials on accessories which are neat.
It can be a bit confusing to trace them out on a table. If you can find a large window to tape them to or have a light desk (I have a cheap tiny old one about the size of a laptop powered with batteries from this Barbie Fashion Designer thing when I was a kid XD, kind of dorky but it works), it helps with the tracing process because you can see the lines very clearly.

Date: 2006-02-09 05:00 am (UTC)if you follow each line, you'll see there's 4 lines in each special color
They'll have size letters over them (s/m/l/ll)
all the directions on what to do are in the mook itself. Its the black/white pages. It has steps numbered and even shows how to best lay out pattern on your fabric

Date: 2006-02-09 06:26 pm (UTC)If you do not know what book the sheets are from just post a list of what patterns are on them and i'm sure someone here will recognize everything.. i say this because the only bible i have is the extra one where every pattern has a small pic of the original item you can ceate next to him. If your patterns doesn't have mini pics of the actual items just try to post a better pic and we'll try to understand what items they're meant for ^^
PS: i know my english is very bad, i really hope everything i wrote makes sense! XD
