fabric stores in Tokyo?
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:47 pmA little help needed...
A friend of mine is going to Tokyo in a while, and I have asked her to pick up some fabrics for me if possible. I would want things with the more unusual prints - gothic like in h.naoto style, or small cute prints (crowns, hearts, stuff like that). Or something else that looks as if it could fit a lolita dress =) Not too pink preferably...
Does anyone know a store in the Tokyo area? If you have a website, please share the link - she can read japanese although I can't so the language is not an issue ^^ Or, if you have a street adress or such and have visited the store.
The site I'm looking through now is http://store.yahoo.co.jp/yuzawaya but it is a bit difficult to find fabrics... I hope they have better things somewhere =(
thanks in advance!

Date: 2006-02-08 09:18 pm (UTC)but you should consider the possibility that the fabric stores in japan to not carry very intresting fabrics. i hate to dissapoint you but if i take a look at fabric stores nearby my home (in the netherlands) the specialized fabric stores sell mainly VERY EXPENSIVE bridal fabrics and other fabrics that cannot be used in normal clothing except more haute couturish pieces.
unless you know how the population of japan thinks of sewing or whether a large group or only a small group sews their own garments and also the age group taking into consideration i wouldnt get your hopes up to much, then at least it can only get better then that :)

Date: 2006-02-08 10:33 pm (UTC)I could scan it for you in the morning. Would it be possible for your friend to translate or give a summary of what is on the pages? I myself would like to buy fabric too when I visit Japan in the summer.

It's kind of hard to miss. Theres a really big sign. I went to tokyo during December but didn't get to go there. Probably would've spent too much if I did... XD;;

Date: 2006-02-09 04:32 am (UTC)OKADAYA (awesome stuff there... AWESOME! :D)
and NIPPORI (it's a stop on the JRYamanote line)
Nippori has a 'textile village' which just means about 2km of FABRIC STORES. I spent a whole day there, and only got through half of it. It's just amazing! :D
