I have a circle skirt whose waistband currently closes with a hook and eye; it's a little big. I'm thinking about removing the hook and eye and turning the waistband into an elastic casing. Do you think this would mess up how the skirt hangs/lies/falls? Is there a better/easier way to go about this?

if you're going to be adding the elastic, you will need to add more fabric to the waist to promote the stretching effect. otherwise, it will not help much.

woops...i didn't see that it was a little big. Well, in that case you wouldn't need to add more, now would you? i would though take caution when adding the elastic because it will probably distort the fall of the fabric

how it fits over your hips is going to determine what is going to work. As was said before, if it fits over your hips easily, the elastic won't be an issue. I don't know how big it is through the waist, so I can't tell you how much it's going to gather. But unless it's more than a couple of inches too big, the gathering should look fine. You can also shrink the whole thing by taking the waistband off and making the seams a little smaller at the waist. LIke putting darts on the existing seam, and then sewing the whole thing back together. It's a hassle, but it'll keep the integrity of the piece more than will elastic.
