I throw myself upon your mercy, oh lovely EGL community.
I'm hosting a Japanese Fashion panel at the Melbourne Anime Festival tomorrow night (6pm, Theatre C) and I now need your help/constructive criticisms of what I am planning to wear.
This is a remake of the Cosmates 3 Frill dress that looked so lovely on
miyu_sakura. It *kind* of looked like I could fit into it if I bought it, but my sewing machine looked appalled at the amount of white fabric I've been using (my cosplay costume for the rest of Manifest is blindingly white), that I had to make it myself.
Please ignore weird expressions. Apparently cameras cannot stand the full charm of my smile, and warp my face into a weird contorted version of myself in its jealousy (cough)

Front view of the dress. I realise my petticoat is showing, but that will be fixed when I actually finish the bottom hem of the dress ^^;;

Better front view of the dress. I'm wearing fishnet arm warmers since the flounces on the sleeve tend to flip up and show my forearms (gasp!) and I don't have any nice bracelets.

Back view of the dress. It won't look so gathered in the back if I don't attempt to lace it up myself.

Me with my partner-in-crime, Rémy, a Dream of Doll Yen.
Notes:
- I will be wearing a small cameo at my neck, I just broke it right before taking the photos, so I'm waiting for the glue to dry.
- I will be wearing stockings and makeup, and will de-frizzy my hair
Questions:
- is the petticoat floofy enough?
- should I go for natural or more dramatic makeup? I cannot take my glasses off as I am hosting the panel, and therefore need to see
- should I have another bigger bow on the back of the dress, or leave it?
- fishnets on arms. Wear them or leave them?
Crossposted like whoa because I need this done by tomorrow night! T^T

Date: 2005-09-22 03:57 am (UTC)the skirt could puff out a bit more in my opinion, it should puff out more from the waist. at the moment its a bit too up and down (if you get what i mean :P)
in terms of make up, maybe some wine coloured lipstick? not too much eyemakeup tho
the back is fine
i know i didn't answer those questions in order, but meh :P

Date: 2005-09-22 04:17 am (UTC)As it stands, the shape of your outfit is very un-gothic lolita-like.
No fishnets on the arms, but I think you need something on the legs.
There are a multitude of things you can wear (knee socks, stockings, ankle socks, dahdahdah) so it doesn't look so barren down there.
And well, the make up kind of depends on how you plan to style your hair.
But I suggest fixing your bangs so that they are more even and thick. It softens up the forehead.

Date: 2005-09-22 04:24 am (UTC)Do you plan on adding anything to it?
And also, I just read below your second picture that you do plan on wearing stockings so excuse my slip up!

Date: 2005-09-22 04:51 am (UTC)No fishnets.
Fix the hair! Get those bagns in place! A round brush with blow dryer works. Than hair spray. Not alot just some at the root to keep it in place.
I'd say play aorund with make u! Your eyes need to pop!
Look at magazines (american not japanese. You Don't have japanese eyes. Look for people with deep set eyes.) and find something that brings OUT your eyes rather than makes them little pits of darkness. XD
I have deep set eyes and glasses. My favorite thing to do is line the Lower lid with black THIN like. Than a bit of wine color along that. Lightly. Than a lighter color on the upper lid. Like a soft rose pink.
feel free to substitute whatever colors look best on you. Or use a brown liner.

Date: 2005-09-22 05:40 am (UTC)I'd go for a pale/white eyemakeup. It always looks really pretty with glasses
