Alright Lolis and Gents!
After hard working of two days (yes, two days. XD), we're finally able to present our journey into GL site-dom. It's very barebone right now, but the ideas and sections presented represent the idea of where we're going. If anyone has more suggestions, feel free to let us know. Also, if anyone has anything to include, let us know that too. Don't be afraid to donate~
With that said, heres the url :
Crosses and Petticoats : A Site to Gothic and Lolita

There. ^_^

I'm highly impressed. You've included a tremendous amount of information already.
I toyed with the idea of doing something like this, but my heart wasn't in it. I do have a ton of feedback/input though, so bear with me. Feel free to consider or ignore as much of it as you like, they're really just my opinions...

I would suggest eventually adding archived reviews of the different online shops and services. I've actually started archiving some of them from the community in my LJ memories (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=batwinged&keyword=EGL&filter=all). They're still not complete or terribly organized, but it's a start...

Bravo on including the dollfies. Though you might want to include the official Volks site (http://www.volks.co.jp/topframeset.html) for good measure.
http://chocolatepretzel.com/dolls is another dollfie site you may or may not want to take a look at.

My only complaints? When reading the descriptions I kept coming across the word "skulls". It's probably really only there maybe 3 or 4 times, but it's not a ton of text and to come across it that frequently when reading straight through was a tad bothersome. I realize that they're traditionally gothic, and obviously an example, but they have very little to do with EGL OR EGA directly and it just seemed off to me to be such a prominent word amongst the descriptions. Total nitpick. Sue me for having no major complaints. ;)

Oh, except that satin isn't "wrong", it's just not reasonable.
As a fabric, satin is a complete pain in the butt. Would you dress a child in satin? Not, unless you want the ensemble destroyed. But for a lolita? It's actually probably more "right" than anyone is willing to admit. Satin is traditionally a "sexy" or "seductive" material. What's a lolita? According to dictionary.com: "A seductive adolescent girl."
Making a lolita dress out of satin makes it that much more inviting. It makes you just want to touch it.
However, I personally just think satin's a horrendous fabric for anything practical, among it's other drawbacks.
And not all EGLs want to be that seductive. One could say they're more coy. It's the same thing with shorter skirts and low necklines being "wrong".
It's all a matter of interpretation and personal opinion.
You can say it's not sweet, or traditional, or sensible, or that it doesn't ruffle well, but don't say wrong.
That just sounds ...impolite.

Anyway, I just have to say one more time, that you girls did do an excellent job. And while I'll certainly continue to give feedback when it's asked for, I'd be happy to help in any other way as well.

I have to concur with you on all parts. I don't think the Japanese fully understood the western connotation of 'lolita' and that western people feel that word is synonymous with child pornography. I personally do not like having to introduce my favorite fashion to those who know nothing of it using that word. They instantly get the wrong idea about it and it's extremely hard (if not impossible) to change that impression.

Satin to me is hideous on most any clothing save for prom dresses or some such. In my own opinion it makes cosplay look cheap and costume-y and in the case of lolita fashion it makes me think of the clothing one buys if they are into the adult baby fetish. It's already bad enough the style looks similar, I don't need them to appear exactly the same by using the same fabric. I don't see any designer japanese brands using satin and I like to follow that same premise.

wow...

great job!!
that web site was really well made, easy to navigate and full of fun information.

*if I may make a suggestion on how the page can grow in the future*
this sort of page has such a cool opportunity to be interactive. because of you guys involvement with the EGL live journal community, what about a page devoted to EGL gatherings which happen. with pictures that people who attend can send in. though this community there have been quite a few.
I don't know about hosting space, but also, maybe pictures sent in from American EGL'ers.
i really like your site, but a few future suggestions had to be made.
^_^
great job though. I loved the descriptions of different style.

Wow, that is a really good idea. ^_^
Well then, I'll look back a bit and see what I can find, but since stuff like that is so up in the air sometimes, I might just *list* it until it actually happens? o.o
Aa yeah. XD We mentioned that you could send in pics of yourself and stuff, but we'd much rather people send in links of their pages of pics. ^^; Codi says bandwidth is an issue (especially cause she wants to change her server/host) because.. we're really not sure just how many people would look at it yeah? o.o; Though I'd love to include American EGLs! ^^v So I think its best if people would send links to pages of pics. Including the tea parties! o.o

Very nice site!

I'm curious about where you found all the terms used to define the various lolita styles like "Sweet Lolita", "EGA", "Kodona", etc.? I haven't seen them all before and I don't think I've come across them in my GL bibles, but I know VERY little Japanese so I could have easily missed them.

ah ha! thanks for info. It seems Mana & moi-meme-moitie come up with many of these terms. I had not heard the term EGL for GL until it was used by Mana I believe. thanks again! :)
