urgh, I so hate living in england. I want a egl outfit for folk week next week and my mother absolutly refuses to buy me anything off the net becuase 1. She doesn't trust it. 2. It costs a bloody fortune to ship over and we have to pay export tax 3. Becuase she doesn't like the way I dress. And i can't sew either

Has anyone got any tips of where to look for cheap stuff?

Realistically, you wouldn't get anything over from the US for this week anyway...

OK. Have you charity shops in your area? Somewhere you can buy lace? What exactly do you have in mind?

Does your mum sew at all? If she does get her to make you a circle skirt and then add the lace you want it wont be perfect but it will be okay.

Actually If you want something for more than I week away (ie in mid august). I've been thinking about making some egl skirts from the patterns in the bible. They won't be perfect but it will be something. All you'd have to do is buy the fabric and the lace you want.

Cheap stuff? Like most everyone else, I'd suggest thrift shops, or second hand stores and what-not. :D Youcan find some realllyyy cheap skirts and blouses (and dresses too but y'know XD) in good condition. It's nice because since they're so cheeap, you won't really feel bad cutting things and putting other things on instead..like lace/ribbon/bows/etc.
For embellishments, I'd suggest a local fabric/craft store...but some aren't cheap o.o I've learned that lace costs money $_$ depending on what kind you buy and how much anyway.

see if you can get away to any car boot sales sometime. It's not all stolen stereo euipment there. Also any of the flea markets might have something you can use. You might also want to ask your mom to help/let you learn to sew, it's really a pretty valuable skill to have even if you can buy the clothing you want.

I picked up a black beaded choker with a silver heart for a couple of quid, and a beautiful ankle length black coat for a mere 50p ^^

I live in the states, but wen we visted England we went to all of them we could find...great stuff there. Though soem of my parent's friends gave us weird looks when we mentioned it. Though everything there was stolen goods. Oh well, better for us.

I went to one yesterday!! Thanks for the tip!! I picked up like, this kinky french maids skirt and with a petticoat it would look SO egl. I'll try and get a photo. I also found a peasent top thats black and has cute bows, I found a parasol too and so much jewellery, and in total, i spent £15!!
