Thank you for all your input on the skirt decision. I chose the Alice one but I am hoping to get the gingham set in the future (with some careful saving). :)

My friend is offering me some of her old boots:

I am wondering if these can be restored with some shoe polish and a trip to the shoe repair shop. The only reason I ask is that I don't want to eat the $35 shipping cost + shoe restoration bill if these are beyond repair. What do you all think? I've never done anything like this before but these boots are beyond cute and I think I can pull off a Ryutaro-ish EGA look with them.

I'm not a member, but I did find this community through a friends journal.

I think all you really need is some shoe polish, and then they should be fine. I have some boots like those and all you really will need is just polish. No trip to a shoe repair should be nessescary, unless something is wrong with it. Like if the heels' are coming off or the inside is screwed.

I completely agree...looks like all they need is a wash and some polish. But they're uber cute, and I can't wait to see your Ryutaro outfit! ^^

Unless there is some damage you can't see in the picture, they just need a good polishing. Take them to someone locally if you don't like polishing boots, and let them do it.

They do look pretty good in teh pucture. If they're leather just use polish, if they're synthetic use an armor-al vinyl cleaner/protector (made for car interiors). If there is damage it depends on where it is as to wether or not it'll be worthwhile to get them, if the sole is seperating you can try shoe goo, which I've had good results with so far, but it might take a professional to really fix it. though that is usually pretty cheap. If there is damage to a strap or something, it might be a bit more pricy.
My concern in getting used shoes is that sometimes they've been worn enough that the indent of the previous owners foot is left inside. Which makes the shoe really comfy for tehm, but not so much for us as the secondary owner. Doesn't happen all that often, but you might want to ask them to check.
