December Themes

Baking
Aprons, bread, cakes, and cookie prints November’s theme is baking. Are you going to turn a gingerbread house into the ultimate deco Lolita hangout? Have any especially Lolita like recipes? Or maybe you’re going to go all out and recreating all the baked goods in a print!

Coord Challenge - Coats
Whether you’re trapped in the snow filled cold or in the middle of summer and missing those winter items you shoved in the back of your close, this month’s coord theme is coats. Take photos of your coord featuring coats and showcase them on egl this month.

With the new AP and BTSSB fashion shows already showing us much of what will be released next year, we have a pretty good idea of what we'll be seeing released over the next few months from the main Japanese lolita brands. What series are you looking forward to?

Additionally, what would you like to see as lolita fashion continues to grow and evolve? Do you want a revival of OTT sweet? A return to old school? Or are you content with the direction it seems to be going in?

Please feel free to share your opinions! Personally, I would love to see more classic/gothic AaTP pieces like they had in 2009-2012. I feel like not much from them has spoken to me recently as much as a few of their older series have, though I loved Ragnarok and their Halloween series Guilty Meltin' Sweets Town, as they both much reminded me of AaTP style from the past. I'd also love to see a surge of OTT gothic.

In line with the monthly theme, which one of your predictions for the previous year came to fruition, and what didn't? Did you foresee Sweet's decline? Did you accurately predict a print, or did something catch you completely by surprise? Did you see the rise of Classic as a lot of other girls had? Were you not really surprised by the Mr. Yan pillow?

To kick things off... )

December's theme is The Future of Lolita
Lolita has been around in some form or another since the 90's, morphing from natural-kei-like outfits to OTT decadence in the process. As 2014 comes to a close, what do you think the next year will bring? Post about your new substyle predictions in the community, or discuss upcoming trends with fellow EGL members in the commnts of this post!

(Those of you who were looking forward to November's missed Dolls theme, we will be visiting it in early 2015!)

Hello, sweeties!
It's Chrismas eve now (well, in many countries) and I'd like to make a little cute present for you all.

I think, every lolita would like to get some brand new clothes for Christmas, but even if you order your dream item, it can be late because of delivery service, customs and other slow services.
I wish you all to get your parcels on time =)
Hope my new video will cheer everyone up and make a tiny Christmas miracle ^__^

I wrote a blog entry about Victorian Christmas traditions, including a short synopsis on gift giving during that time. Since the general monthly theme is gifts, I want to share that excerpt here and invite you to read the full entry which further explorers the elegance of a Victorian Christmas. To start a discussion, I also posted a few questions on your thoughts on Victorian gift giving.

 H A P P Y - L O L I D A Y S !

Just the other evening I posted a few pictures from the making of this year's Christmas card to Daily_Lolita.
I got such a great response and so many comments about my coord's uniqueness that I thought I should share it here as well! My apologies to the kind folks who have already seen this!

Christmas is just behind the corner and everybody is busy picking gifts!

And I have to confess to not knowing what to buy for certain Lolita acquaintances. Now, I'm not asking for help in picking gifts for friends - I know my friends and I know what they'd like to get.

But I'm going to a Christmas meet, and we'll be having a Secret Santa exchange and I have no idea what to buy! For the past two years my gifts were rather pitiful - I just bought random plushies I'd liked. I really want to pick something Lolita-friendly and... er... neutral? For instance, I recently got into soap-making, and I thought - hey, making a cupcake-shaped soap is such a great idea! Hand-made and useful!  Then I got hit with doubt. What if my recipient hates the aroma I scent the soap with? Or they're allergic to whatever vitamins I put in?

So, um. Any advice? I'm not asking you to reveal whatever you're picking for this year's gift exchanges - but what did you buy previous years? What did you get and liked?

Wow, this year flew by fast @_@ The weather here changed very suddenly a couple of days ago, so it feels like summer just ended.

In honor of another holiday season, we're proud to showcase [livejournal.com profile] noke89's cute, candy-cane themed art in the header. You can see more of her lovely work at her deviantArt page.

And now for some more information about this month's activities:

No matter what holiday(s) you celebrate this season, one thing that holds true across all cultures is that this is a special season for gift-giving! If you have given a gift of lolita joy to your friends or loved ones this month, please share with us!

This December, holidays come in all colors! Red and green, blue and white, and a whole rainbow of colors that represent every culture's celebration. If you have a coordinate or lolita item that shows off your holiday spirit in these festive colors, this is your month to show it off!

So I made a post a while back asking advice on how to go about altering a dress.
http://community.livejournal.com/egl/16594071.html
I finished the alterations the other day, and would like to share with you how I did it!
This is unplanned, but it also fits the Sweets Theme for December. :P

Basic Idea of Steps
1. Take apart lining.
2. Take apart bodice.
3. Make new panels to fit in.
4. Rebuild bodice.
5. Rebuild lining.
6. Take out zipper.
7. Rebuild lining half of zipper.
8. Rebuild bodice half of zipper.
9. Dance party.
