*waves* Hello everyone ^_^ I just joined. I'm really into the whole EGA/EGL/ect ect stuff, but alas I have none *sniffle* ;.;
Anyway, onto a question ^^;

I am doing a big project in my English class, and we research a topic and do 10-12 mini projects on the topic. I chose Japanese Culture and for one of my projects I wish to make a Lolita headband and a matching choker. Buut....I a) don't even begging to know how to make the headband and b) suck at sewing --_--()!!

I'm not too worried about the choker because my sister's fiance can help me with that, but I really really need help with the headband ^^; any help you could give me would be most welcome!!!

Why do I see you wherever I go? *g* I made my headband completely with hot glue. I took the measurements I wanted and cut out a rounded rectangle from paper for a pattern, then used the pattern to cut some scrap fabric. Then I glued lace and stuff around it as hit my fancy. Hot glue ribbon ties, and you're done. You can see the end result here (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=megaraptor&itemid=145465).

Making headpieces is really simple, & as stated before, requires little or no sewing. Just cut a rectangle the length you want the headpiece to be (about 11 - 15" will do) by the width you want (about 4 - 6"). Add some decoration to the face of the rectangle if you want, like crosses, or ribbon or something. Cut two strands of ribbon or grosgrain (ribbon is prettier) at about 15" long, then attach it to the corners of your headpiece for the chinstraps, then sew or hotglue some ruffled lace around the edges (you can get it really cheap at your local sewing supply store). let the bugger cool & voila! you have an EGL headpiece! If you like you can see my finished product here (http://www.slucky.net/malmach/images/headpiece.jpg) & here (http://www.slucky.net/malmach/images/headpiececloseup.jpg). I decorated mine with 2" wide eyelet lace with purple ribbon on top, & edged it with 3" wide ruffled lace & purple rick rack.

To make this headdress (http://kubrick.cdes.qut.edu.au/~n4410203/ebay/head_top.jpg) I sewed the lace onto a piece of satin ribbon and then sewed the brocade trim down the middle. All by hand, of course, because using a sewing machine can be too messy for something small. If you just hot glued it, it could fall to pieces while you're wearing it, so always sew to make sure it's going to last.
