A dress in review!

So here is my Peachs and Cream Rococo Gown with more detailed pics and how i did its and whatever!!! I promised i would make this for a friend who was all curious-a-fied. Yay.





So first of all costs and where i bought stuff and yeah!

UnderPinnings:
Bloomers- Walmart, with lace zigzagged onto the bottom (like 15.00 total with the price o lace included)
Petti- really crappily made by me! whee! (stuff from joanns like 5 bucks for tulle and ribbon)
Chemise- made by me! outa decorater taffeta moire with lace (fabric from hobbylobby and lace from joanns 20.00)

Over Dress:
I used THIS pattern.
What a pain to sew. I love it. But i dunno if i will ever have the guts to do it again.
Fabric about 25.00
Lace about 15.00
Ribbon and notions about 10.00
Pattern- 15.00

Accessories:
Wig- around 40.00
Hat- around 2.50
Shoes-target around 30.00

TOTAL MONIES SPENT >< = 177.50 (a conservative estimate really)

Impressive. I really like the bodice. The boning flatters your figure. Where did you wear it? I have one rococo style dress, but I've only worn it once since it's so fancy.

well we had a tea party which i wore it to. but upon returning home i found i was locked out with only the keys to my car. so i went to the mall to kill some time. THAT was an interesting experience.

i guess. he wanted my contact info... i just gave him my email. havent heard from him. it was.... odd. Also my bf was wearing his favorite Ferrari racing jacket and everyone thought we were going to some wierd costume ball as marie antoinette and a race car driver.

well i had a pickle in that i didnt want to spend more, and i wanted the lace to be cream, and come in 2 lengths, 4 and 2 inches. it rather limited my selection. ^^; next time i will cheap trims.

also, my pet peeve is not trying to be as period appropriate as possible. my mom asked if i would wear it to the local ren fest and i fliped my shit so to speak. I mean really. who wears a 18th century gown to a 15th century event. personally i was horrified.

I totally understand that! My non-loli friends ask me all the time if i'll wear my Lolita clothes to the local ren faire--no no no, again, no. Victorian does not equal Renaissance.

D:!! -makes grabby hands at your over dress fabric- It's so pretty *_* (the whole dress). I wish I could do boning but I'm too chicken to try XD;; Very nice work~

its actually alot easier than i though. you can do it several differnt ways. the eaiest (which i figured out AFTER i had cut the seam allowances a tad) is to simply sew the boning into the seams of the dress rather than line it, and iron the seam to one side rather than flat. You need to leave yourself a tad more room on seam allowances, but it isnt dificult. make your seam normally, then just slip the boning in, and zigzag away. or you could even french seam it.

Or if you are going to follow what that moron pattern says, take out the boning from its casings sew it in, then put the boning back it. alot easier

well i only have ones for the victorian silhouette, and i was not about to make one. no time. plus i love breathing, and being able to enjoy my tea. But i do like trying to maintain the right look. if i had one i probably would have worn it.
