I'm so excited, I just paid for this pattern from EBay!

It's #324 Authentic Pattern, Inc. which I haven't seen in a lot of local shops. Pretty rare, at least. it's a square-dancing dress pattern.

I have dove gray cotton as the main color (I like dk grey cause it photographs better than black). What does everybody think about velvet for trimmings? Or colored lace? (I have brocades in teal blue and burgundy I've been hoarding)

OK, that's it really, I'm just really excited to get started on it...

I honestly think teal would look really nice with the grey. and thats a very nice pattern!!!

I would go for more of a red or pink trim, to offset the coolness of the grey...but it would be dark, maybe a burgundy, or something with a pretty purplish tint.

You might want to modify it to tone down the extreme fullness of the skirt. The two outermost red gore edges on the pattern are a more suitable width for EGL.

I'm not into teal in general for anything elegant gothic... maybe the burgundy. I think plain white lace could work... or baby pink. I think gray always looks nice trimmed with baby pink.

Yeah, I agree with you. Maybe it would be a good idea to tone down the dress a bit so that 1. normal loli petticoats will fit under nicely and 2. it won't look exactly like a square dance dress

As for the colors... i think grey looks good with pink and/or black, or maybe pastel blue?
I think velvet might look a little too heavy for the dress.. :/
no?

well it would go down, but it'd be very ruffled (don't know if i use the right words for what i want to say -_-; )
the skirt would be very large and not look 'flat' like egl dresses tend to look (a sq skirt (http://www.dancerduds.com/funfancy/2962.jpg) vs egl skirt (http://www.limebarb.com/store/egl/aliceset/01.jpg))
i don't know if you understand >_<

As for how to do it, i'm definetly not a pro when it comes to sewing, but the sd pattern will probably be a full circle skirt (like the pattern showed in the entry about making a petticoat (http://www.livejournal.com/community/egl/668357.html)) so, to tone it down, you could make it less large instead of a full 380 degree. Try cutting it by half or 1/3, it depends on your need, just test it out by pinning pieces of fabric together, if you'd like.
I did the opposite for a red hood costume last halloween (made a full circle skirt from a less large skirt pattern) and it was very easy to do, so I don't think you'll have any problems with it even if you're a beg-intermediate with sewing :)

By the way i think the appron is the cutest idea ever!! <3

That's an awesome pattern! I'm fond of mixing burgundy and grey myself.

Authentic Patterns are wonderfull! The only place I found that sells them so far is an online store, no local stores cary them where I live. Although I was lucky to find one in a free paterns box at Salvation Army in my size while out thrift store shopping one day. I hoping to purchase more in the future. How much did that pattern cost you btw, am curious. ^_^;;
Great buy!

Wow it sound like you got a really good deal. Promenade Patterns sells some Authentic Patterns and Brantley sells some nice square dance patterns as well. BG Designs has a few sqaure dance patterns as well. I had another link that just sold Authentic Patterns but it seems I lost it since I can't find it in my favorites folder. I hope these help. I was lucky to find Authentic Pattern 280 at a thrift store while digging through some patterns in a freebie box. Just goes to show not all thrift store freebies box is just junk. ^_^
