Stumbled across this in the produce section of the supermarket tonight:







The English text at the bottom reads "We produce encounter with high-quality kabocha. It is a prologue surely healthy life."

I find it at once cool and hilarious--cool, because the ace of spades is one of my personal favorite motifs, and hilarious, because hey, it's a box of pumpkins. (Or rather, a box that used to have pumpkins in it.)

how cute! I like to save the boxes to japanese food, I think it's such interesting box art. I was thinking that kabocha was a squash or something, I had it once at a Japanese restaurant.

That *is* a really interesting motif. I find it funny though that they would use it for a produce box. Especially for pumpkins.

Need a bigger picture?

I took one of the boxes home tonight, so I can take a bigger picture of just the A/Spade logo if you want. I keep visualizing that logo on all kinds of items, too.

I know what has happened! The owner of the pumpkin farm wanted to save on logo designing costs, and asked his artistic daughter (very into egl) to draw one.
"Daughter! Why do you insist on mixing that silly dressing-up hobby with everything, even my pumpkin logo? But it will do, none of the westerners I'm selling these pumpkins to have ever heard about you EGL-weirdoes. I hope!"

Hee. I'm picturing a girl in full egl dress walking delicately through the pumpkin patch--her ankle-strap platform heels sinking into the dirt--with a parasol in one hand and a dainty Victorian watering can in the other. But she has to walk back to the spigot after every pumpkin because the watering can is so small.

(Then again, 75 percent of my mental image is lifted from the Shimotsuma Monogatari stills.)
