So, here's the thing. It's true that many (most?) EGL girls wear a lot of clothes from name-brands and follow fashion trends in the EGL bibles. But, some of the best trends seem to come from random peopel who have a cool fashion and other people start to follow it.

My friends and I have one fashion statement that's sort of casual loli: we called it "disgruntled schoolgirl." It's good because you can wear your actual school uniform, with just a few changes. What we did: take off your school blazer and put on an egl coat or sweater, take off the cute school bow (if you have one) and wear a big black bow, put your hair in mana-style messy pigtails, change your socks to black socks with lace or ribbons, put on some eyeliner. There you have it.

My personal fashion statement lately (dressing up for lives etc): Wrist corsages! Think about it, it's so cute and easy. Just take some roses or fake roses, flower arranging wire (whatever this is called), elastic and ribbon to tie on your wrist. I think it works well.

So here's my question: what is your personal fashion point/trend you'd like to start?

...sorry my posts are always ridiculously long...

starting a point/trend is strangely silly, because no one is original. it all comes from either ripping people off, taking ideas or eveolving styles OR getting inspiration from other areas...ie other people, celebs, styles.

I had a nice bow for my uniform. wasnt allowed to use it. we call it restriction at our school =n.n=' you are very lucky to be allowed to alter your dresses like that.
i just have inspiration from neogothic items.. any bet that'll be

the next big thing..it always happens..
i seem to find things and all of a sudden they become the next big thing. and i'm not being a turd either =n.n=

i bought a collar from year 9 [spiked] while i was in the school play. the next year all of a sudden people started coming to school with collars with spikes [but smaller ones] this didnt bother me of course.. because other people could have thought of it as well coincidentally..but apparently it got so bad.. i was called into the office to take all my jewlery off because it got so exposed and obvious in the school grounds.

.. but then again, i love a challenge. now i'm lazy and i'l rip off people iff i want, of cousre i'll use appropriation, but at the moment.. being original is useless and it upsets me..

i had armwarmers..with cut holes... all of a sudden it was a style ..and people would wear them.. from tv or something. i dont know

but strangest of all.. i read a journal entry of one of my fellow aquaintences and well.. it was talking about how love was so overrated and e.t.c everyone brings its meaning to a pulp...

then the whole world gets into it.. and now we have a lovely movie called "love actually" that i actually like.

the point of that was to say.. i guess all these coincidences [in the masses] is great! sometimes..

i hope the neogothic trend doesnt start here... i've already collaborated my wardrobe for it...

.. sigh*

anyway yea hhehehe being quiet now...
feel free to flame.
you probably dont understand my position
yes- i think we're THAT different ;)

1.) I'm really not going to waste the time responding to you.
gomen to say =n.n=;; you have decided otherwise.

2.) And finally: do you seriously, seriously think you invented the idea that love is overrated?
it is not what i meant and no =n.n=

Please don't let the remarks of some members drive you away from the community. I have always enjoyed and appreciated the input of those who have lived in Japan or are Japanese themselves. For instance, without [livejournal.com profile] sumirechan's fantastic write-up, most of would still be fishing for clues about EGL resale in Tokyo.

Messed up ponytails are always cute. My friend wore them once to a live we went to and the girl behind us bitchly remarked "Could you flatten your hair? It's too big". ~~ufuuufuuuufuuuufuuuu~

One trend that I would like to really hit it big is concerning legwear. I really like stockings, weird socks, and all sorts of things, especially layering them. I think that wearing different colored fishnets over brightly colored or patterned stockings is really cute.

And as a sort of expansion on your idea of the wrist corsages, what about nosegays? Those are very old-fashioned and mix well with EGL. You could spice them up by adding little charms or using patterned outrer-coverings.

...and your point is that YOU are original for adapting a fringe fashion style that is already hugely popular in Japan? Some humility and insight is needed here... You think like a typical teenager. You didn't invent EGL (or spiked collars) in Aussie, hence you don't own it! Let people do whatever...

=n.n= because they are not broadminded enough.

Did you know that the teachers told me to take off my collar of my school because the "younger" grades were supposedly been influenced byit?

it was first hand given information. I told these people that. however, they took it wrong saying i invented collars =n.n= i do not mind. it is not an EGL community anymore. They dont have what it takes to be a lolita =n.n= not morbidly close, but that is okay, i am sure they will phase themselves out. i have copied the text to show how strangely ironic it is =n.n= and i have used it in my art folio.

I am very happy about it. I do not try to stir things up, it is interpretation that has caused this.

note the tone that they use.
It is only prompting and provoking.
and yet , it is the only reason why when people start fights, i can probably see why they do.

These people are so closeminded. They have not taken into consideration the fact i have tried to calm down fights =n.n= but that is okay.
because they dont seem to be able to do anything but cause insults and assure themselves things..
it is basic act of human survival. its fascinating =n.n=

Hm, it's hard to say what comes from where. A couple of months ago I made a headdress in what I thought was my own style, and last week decided I wanted a hat too. So with a clear picture of what I wanted (fabrics, decorations, etc) I went shopping to see what was out there, not expecting to see anything like that, but discovered that Carina e Arlequin had headdresses and hats that were REALLY similar. I guess that designer and I must have been seeing the same things around that influenced us in what we wanted to do. *LOL* It's cool. I'm happy not to be alone in what I like. ^^ (but the question remains, although someone else is designing similar things, will anyone else WEAR the stuff...?)

Off topic & sorry to bother you, but I'm curious where you shop for sewing materials in Tokyo? I've heard something about a large two-building store devoted to sewing and home decoration. Have you found this, if it exists?

Oh, that's Okadaya. It's in Shinjuku, just outside the east exit.
http://www.sgj.co.jp/mall/okadaya/

I also go to Yuzawaya. There's one in Kichijoji, which is on the Chuo line. It's not as convenient from Yamanote-area Tokyo but it's very easy from where I live...
http://www.yuzawaya.co.jp

Also, I've heard that Nippori (that whole area) is a heaven for apparel supplies, but I haven't been there yet because it's kinda far and inconvenient...

Okay, here's the problem, using random Japanese in senetences is annoying to those who actually speak/study the language seriously. It shows a lack of desire to use the language properly, and it makes you look rather silly. It's similar to people who insert random French in their daily conversation because they think that it makes them look more sophisticated.

Of course, the situation is different for each subculture, but in this case, using expressions like "gomen to say" and so forth make you look like a fangirl. The same breed that stalk around conventions snapping pictures of every Asian guy that they see and squealing over pictures of anime characters.

It's fun to have fun, but fun has its limits. At some point, everyone must draw a line between having fun and just being vapid. I'm afraid that your rather sloppy writing style, your untrained usage of random Japanese, and your rather patronizing attitude has turned everyone off to the point where I think that you have lost the chance to clarify your position. There is a large difference between being misinterpreted, and deliberately prentending that everyone is picking at you, and in this case, I think you have definetly shown tendencies for the latter.

That's all I have to say. I am not withdrawing my participation because I have sympathy for your position, but because I really think that you are not worth debating anymore.

We called it "disgruntled schoolgirl." It's good because you can wear your actual school uniform, with just a few changes. What we did: take off your school blazer and put on an egl coat or sweater, take off the cute school bow (if you have one) and wear a big black bow, put your hair in Mana-style messy pigtails, change your socks to black socks with lace or ribbons, put on some eyeliner.

Yeah, you see those styles in KERA quite a bit and I believe Mari's Rock/DEVIL even put a spin on the "disgruntled schoolgirl" look (as you call it). ^_^

It's kind of difficult to say what trend one would like to start because most "unique" people don't dress a particular way in order for others to emulate them. Admittedly, I would like to see "kodona" catch on in the States but that really isn't original or personal. ^_~
