The first dress looks like a Lolita prom dress! I don't know if I'd call that Country Lolita though, feels more like it should be called Classic Lolita to me... ^-^ It would be a beautiful dress to wear over a full, floor length solid colour skirt too, for ball room dancing.
I don't care so much for the second dress though... I think it would make the wearer look a little rounder than she is, if you know what I mean...
I've been wondering if 'country lolita' is even a term they use in Japan for quite some time now. I recall a Japanese girl on the Black Lolita ML saying that type of G&L style is referred to as sweet (amai) lolita. I ask you because you have first-hand experience with these things and not just filtered down info like most of us here. ^__^;
I do believe the term "country lolita" is a Western invention, likely due to the use of gingham in a number of the Amai Lolita designs. This has a country western feeling to a lot of people I think, and gave rise to the term here. Amai Lolita is the Japanese term though, for designs in pastel colours, or with very sugary sweet feelings. Even a BxW can be Amai Lolita if its got a sweeter feeling than a spooky one. I don't think I've ever heard of a Japanese person, or a Japanese publication, referring to the sweet styles as "country," personally, but it's been a while since I've actually been to Japan, maybe some one who's gone more recently can speak with more authority?
i think you are right. ive only heard the country lolita style from western sites. and yes, i think it had to do with ginghams and wicker basket type stuff. i still think that looks very sweet. so i just group it into the amai lolita category, because it looks very cute and natural. rather than dark and somewhat myseterious or having very dark colors for clothes and ever make up. so i think of it asthe same as sweet lolita. but i guess sometimes its really good to be technical about things.
Eee... I don't think they break it down that distinctively... as far as I know, it's pretty much just Amai Lolita for the softer look, Gothic Lolita for the darker look, *or* Tenshi-kei (especially for the wxw ensembles) and Akuma-kei for the goth look. And then either Classic for outfits with more lacy, Victorian looking influences, and Neo for more modern cuts. These are the terms I've actually seen in use so far.
You know, before Gothic Lolita was invented, the "Sweet Lolita" outfits were just called "Lolita" outfits... only since the whole gothic lolita movement took off have they had something to compare themselves too.
i dont care for the first dress or at least the print- it reminds me of my summer living in the boonies, i had a dress so similar. it was very distasteful. but the second isn't bad
