You'll probably be seeing little changes made everyday until we're able to form the community into something we all can enjoy.

My personal image for the community is that this be a place where people can discuss EGL/EGA, and it's closely related styles, without the all the fluff. It will not be quite as strict as some communities, so Western styles influenced by the Japanese version are welcome, and beginners can ask all the beginner questions they want. (Though, that's why I'll be making an FAQ so that we may be able to politely point them to their answer promptly.) People will be free to share scans, art, and images as long as they are all directly related to the style. What does 'directly relating' mean, exactly? It means there's no mistaking whether or not it's EGL, or mostly EGL influenced. If you post an image of you in a mini skirt with some lace and a bow strategically placed, it's not going to count. Text wise, if you posted an article or perhaps a site that only mentions the word "Lolita" once, and doesn't revolve around the topic of EGL/EGL related styles, that won't be approved, either. I don't believe anyone wants to read several paragraphs of nothing that particularly interests them just to see that their beloved style was only mentioned once or twice by people who probably don't even know what the heck they're speaking of, anyway. If there is a full paragraph about the style within an article/site/etc you may post that part only, with a link to the rest.

I do like the idea of linking other communities on the information page, so that people can find exactly what they are looking for. So I think a community link list will be in order.

So, you want to be a moderator?

I hope you all will understand when I say; I can't just go around hiring anyone who wants to be one. I've had several communities during my time on LJ, and I know that just doesn't work. So, here's my plan. I believe that it's very fair for both sides.

I'll be recruiting only three other moderators. If the need comes up for more later on, that will be dealt with. To qualify yourself as a moderator you must be able to contribute to the community. That means not only moderating, but helping with archiving memories, the FAQ page, etc. If you live in Japan and can give heads up on news and related events, that would be awesome, and things like that can get you qualified as well. We'll need a server for the FAQ/Information page, so if anything has any ideas on that, that will be great. You must know how to do these things already since I don't really have time to teach you. I'd like each mod to be able to help with one separate thing. If you can and would like to help with more than one, that's fine, too. Basically, I just want to know that the people I pick love the community and the subject as much as the members, if not more.

Also, if it's found that you are not being fair on a regular basis as a moderator, I WILL remove you, and you be regular member again. I will not tolerate rude, control freaks.

Rest assured, I WILL be posting polls very soon for rules, auctions , and maybe eventually the picks for moderators. Is there anything else you guys feel you should vote on?

PS: [livejournal.com profile] avant_gauche, mind if I link your site as the community's page?

PPS: What do you guys think of doing something like [livejournal.com profile] mac_cosmetics and just create a journal like [livejournal.com profile] mac_admin? I think that may be better than an actual online page. Let me know your thoughts!

While I like the idea, I doubt the majority of the existing and future members will go to the trouble to read a separate moderator/FAQ community.

I have some webspace (not so much a server, per say) that I would be willing to volunteer for select community image hosting.

Perhaps make it really visible? Maybe instead of just a small text link, have a big icon that is hard to miss, with a brief summary of the main rules & the general conduct expected of members.

Frankly though, anyone finding it too much trouble to just click on a link & do a small amount of reading, is probably going to find it too much trouble to follow the rules anyway so the moderator(s) will be having words with them whether they read the rules or not. (I know it sounds like I'm against having rules & an FAQ - I'm not - I'm just saying that there are idiots out there who think they don't have to bother)

I really hope you dont take this the wrong way.

Hi,

Erm I'd rather you didn't have my page as the community page but if you want a community page I'll host if for you just send me the files. I can spare a couple of meg and a subdomain like

yourname.avantgauche.co.uk

Charlotte.

P.S I know this might seem weird but please dont consider me for role of moderator I'm putting all my time in to my own site and

That seems to be a good idea. But I am not experienced in any of this at all so.......... Best wishes and hopefully this whole transition (for lack of a better word ^_^;;) goes smoothly!

*raises hand*
I'll be a moderator if you need one.
I also have webspace that I am more than happy to host a FAQ page or something like that on. And certianly making a FAQ page would be no trouble at all. ^___^

I really hope you do become a moderator. I'm starting to get scared that things won't be so nice around here now... It's just a really big and sudden change, I suppose, from total anarchy. ^_^;

I think you would be great as a mod too.

Grr, I'd just typed up a large reply to this and then LJ lost it. That bugs me. So I'll try to type it up again but I'm prolly going to forget something =P

I could mod if you need me. I'm going to be in Japan for nearly a year as of March, and although I'm unsure right now of how much net time I'll have there, I'm pretty sure I'll be around enough to mod here. There will be a week or two where I won't be around because of orientations in California and Tokyo for this trip, but other than that I believe I'll be online. I'll be in Osaka, so I should be able to contribute some EGL news and such.

I have modding experience on a few large messageboards, but not on LJ before. However, I think I can figure it out pretty quick =P I've also got a lot of experience with website stuffs and have my own webspace (animespoof.com). I've got a digital camera and digital camcorder I'll be bringing with me to Japan and if I see anything EGLish I'll be sure to get pics or video of it :)

Also, with the FAQ, I've seen some communities that have a separate journal and they use the memories to set up an FAQ. Each topic has its own entry that's easy to find in the memories section, and it's really neat and organized. It's real easy to find what you're looking for. Just a suggestion ^^

why don't we just use our own community memories?

We could do that, too ^^* It might get kinda cluttery, though. I dunno, it was just a thought.

oh, i'm sorry if i sounded confrontational. x_x i'd just been thinking of the memories thing myself, since i've seen it done well in other communities.

Nah, it's all good :) Yeah, it is a good idea, whether there's a separate journal for it or not.

I LOVE THINGS GETTING ORGANIZED!
I wouldn´t mind to be a mod, but I don´t really know how to do it :S
Let´s all hope it come out nicely and this would be still a free community where we can all express ourselves without forgetting the cuteness and the good manners (i think that´s what egl is about)
Hopefully mods won´t have to do a lot ;)

XOXO to u all lolis

My boyfriend have got own webserver, and I'm allowed to use it freely, the url would be www.monostar.net/yourname then. (my own EGL creations page is at http://www.monostar.net/ichigo)

And if you need one moderator who know quite a bit both on EGL and creating own EGL garments I may volunteer.

Potential Mod here!

I'd be more than happy to do all those things as moderator- I'm a fine art student in multimedia and animation and I have several servers that I can host any pages or pictures on.
I'd love to help write the FAQ, because I have been researching and translating information on gothic lolita fashion for a few years now, and I feel I could answer all the important questions in detail.
I spend a lot of time online, and I have experience moderating livejournal communities, yahoo groups and bulletin boards.
I also design and sew gothic lolita clothes under my brand "Seraphic Rose" and a collaboration "Seraphic Garden", so I know the fashion from the inside out as well^_^
