Hello Kitties,

Well I've just been told by a friend that she will be going to Japan (Tokio for the most part!) in March & she has just offered to pick me up a few things whilst out there, so I was wondering if you could give me a list of shops where things like Tights, Knee High Socks, Headresses, Bloomers & Shoes could be picked up from! (Name, Location Etc...) Also if you had any other ideas of things that she could get for me that would be great too! I'd really like a dress but I doubt I would be able to afford or fit in one as I am slightly larger by a few Inches than the regular Japanese sizes... Also what kind of prices am I looking at for those sort of things? I need to know so I can figure out how much to give her... If you have any other ideas of things I could ask her to get me or any info you think would be usefull please let me know!

PS: OT I know but any recomendations about Cosplay stuff is also highly appreciated!

Any help is greatly appreciated.
*Hugs*
Gleny...

I'm assuming if it's a friend picking up stuff then you probably shouldn't be sending her to every little hole-in-the-wall place in Tokyo... (it IS Tokyo that she's going to, right? You didn't mention a city in your post...)

You can get fairly inexpensive tights, socks, and other accessories on Takeshita-dori, just outside Harajuku Station. (take Takeshita exit, go down the street, find millions of accessory shops) There are a number of shops specializing in hosiery of all kinds where you can get lace-topped socks at much better prices than Bible brands, but finding it means wading through a bunch of Fruits and gal stuff. You won't find any of the Bible brands here except in the used clothing shops.

The single best place for Bible brands in Tokyo is OIONE ("Marui One") in Shinjuku which has several floors of goth/loli boutiques. Just about all the most famous brands are represented here. They're arranged according to brand, not type of garment, so if you want your friend to get (for example) Baby-style socks you should tell her to go to the Baby boutique.
There's a map to this store on their site.

As a note, tights here often come in only one size and they're not made for long legs. If you're only a little bigger than the average Japanese girl that's probably okay, though.

For prices it depends. It could be 1,000 yen for really low-end socks or 4,000 yen for brand-name ones. Headdresses too -- I don't know how cheap they get, but I've seen some (like Arachnophobia's beautiful leather-and-lace ones) that were around 10,000 yen. Why don't you look around your favorite brands' sites to get an idea of what they cost? For the cheap Takeshita stuff, it's probably safe to assume it's about half of average Bible-brand cost for whatever kind of item.

There are two used Lolita clothing shops on Takeshita street. ^^ One of them is Closet Child, which has maps for its branches on their site:
http://www.discwave.co.jp/c_child/
and the other is called something like "Brand X" and can be found by looking up at the 2nd floor windows for the one with the Lolita brand names painted in large letters. (I know the description sounds vague but when you're actually on the street it's hard to miss ^^;)

Brand names ARE better if you can afford it. A lot of the things people complain about regarding Western goth/loli clothes, like ugly fabric, satin, and cheap lace, are exactly the same in the inexpensive not-name-brand Japanese clothes. It's just that no one ever takes or publishes pictures of these clothes. ^^; If you don't mind that then go for the inexpensive clothes; but if you want it made with nice materials then you'd better go for a name brand.

I definitely second the recommendation for MaruiOne (O1ONE). ^_^

All the major designers have shops listed on their websites, so let me know if you need someone to read the japanese for you, and maybe where in japan your friend is going? (it may be a small country but not THAT small ^_^) I'd be glad to help you pinpoint some shops, obviously it would be easiest to find places in tokyo especially around the harajuku and shinjuku areas, but there are other shops in other cities as well.
