I'm planning on making my prom dress EGL or EGA, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any design suggestions, like pictures you can point me at, for a good "prom dress." The theme is "Moonlight over Paris" and well, just wanted to see what you guys thought would make a good prom dress. I'd prefer a long skirt, but if it's pretty and "elegent" enough, I'll take shorter. XD

I know this is a super-dollfie dress, but it might give you some ideas?
I was searching on ebay and ran across it and remembered your post.

Haha!
I totally understand that sentiment!
I went to my Senior Homecoming dance in full Renn-fest garb with my boyfriend at the time. He wore his chainmail and everything!
You can see a couple pictures here...

The dress may not look that impressive of different by today's standards, but that was 5 years ago (God I'm so old!) and *nobody* was wearing anything like that! I had my mom make the dress for me and I made the tunic that the guy is wearing with his house crest on it. We got tons of compliments even though we were totally weird!
For my senior prom, I went in full 40's swing style which was fun too!

Good luck making sometime up to your standards of unusual! ^_____^
I really think those school dances should be cosume parties anyway. That'd make them way more interesting!

I'd look towards visual kei as an inspiration for formal yet fabulous dresses. But probably ANY dress that didn't have that hideously popular strapless style would be good...

My two favorite "visual kei but could be worn to the prom" costumes:
Mana (Transylvania)

Machi (Bara wa Utukushiku Chiru costume)
