As requested, I've scanned images of Leila's dress from issue 2. I have higher quality images, these will only be up for a limited time, please don't direct link. Leave a note if you wish to have the larger scans.
I love the animation. It's so beautiful. It's wonderfully amusing and enchanting, as well. I love how Mana and Gackt make cameos in it everywhere, even though it's not really them.
There's all sorts of funny things that are missed in the first issue. Interesting situations, funny expressions, gags, all sorts of things. The author is very creative with her plot and situations.
I'll have to check it out. I've been meaning to, for some reason though I tend to shy away from the Koren stuff though. I guess I must have some sort of stigma or something but the art is just wonderful.
Parakiss rocks my socks any day. I can't wait for the 5th volume to come out. Isn't that supposed to be soon?
Tokyo Pop's website doesn't say anything about when the new Para Kiss comes out. Though it's been about a year or so, a new volume should be coming out soon.
Anything that doesn't open the Japanese way from Tokyo pop is Korean or American. Island, Priest, I.N.V.U, and Under a Glass Moon are all from Korea. I've read some of Island that was pretty good, Priest was ok, I.N.V.U. I haven't had much interest in. Under a Glass Moon I have seem kind of eh on because back in the day when you read American comics they would bang in your head if it was really pretty it would have no plot. But it keeps on looking more temping everything I here someone talk about Under a Glass Moon and if it has Mana in it....
But it is interesting to see how a style varies from country to country. You can look at American art trying to be in the Japanese style and you can tell for the most part it's American. There is something different about it all around. It's the same way with Korean art too, though it is hard to tell but it does have a different feel to it. Manwa from Hong Kong is cool because it still had the Japanese feel (though the characters tend to be a little more realist looking, a little) but is inked and colored in very well. Colored better then most American comics. The Hong Kong comics seem to use a different set of colors then American so more often then not.
So, in the end I tend to be biased towards Japanese manga because that is what I know and love the most. Just how I am.
I've not read Korean manga, except for Glass Moon. It's less... strict, in some ways. There's more jokes and silly things. See issue 2, Luka's former teacher. Nice knit cap. 'Nuff said. There are differences, but for the most part, they're good ones. I like picking out the jrockers, it's a fun way to pass time while reading the books.
Oh, by the way, the street date for ParaKiss 5 is 3/9/04.
Pet Shop of Horrors is indeed good, the third issue just came out. There are three volumes of Under the Glass Moon listed on Tokyopop's site, but I can't believe it's really ending in only three issues. There's no projected release date, but I hope the author will decide to continue it. Three issues is not enough for me.
Pet Shop of Horrors is about a young man who runs a "pet shop" in Chinatown. Exotic pets, he calls them. It's a fairly interesting concept, and the plot really picks up with the third book. There's supposed to be ten volumes, and there are previews of the issues on Tokyopop's site. Look under books and find the title in the P section.
so the Pet Shop is a slow paced manga? ack 10 vol?! >_< can't afford to collect 'em all but I'll give it a try once Kodocha and Chobits gns I finish. lol thanks!
