Date: 2003-10-06 05:49 pm (UTC)The measurements are not body measurements but garments measurements and depending on the style sometimes it is supposed to be loose-fitting, sometimes tight-fitting. They're all made for one size, Japanese woman size 9.
If you know your patterns size you can figure out which size you should be in Japanese. You know, in the US (as I assume that you live, I do not ;)) the size numbers have gone crazy lastly, but the sewing patterns by big brands like Buttericks, simplicity etcetera have the same sizes as past in the time.
The Japanese size based its sizes on the american sizes (the old one, not as it is today) but in between of them because of the a bit little different shape of japanese women (more pear-shaped) but generally a size 9 Japanese is about the same as in between of size 8 and 10 US woman.. The old one, not today's sizes of course.
Now I do not know if this is correct but one girl who was in Japan wrote this "size translation chart".

Date: 2003-10-06 05:56 pm (UTC)Here's one sizing chart for Vogue:
http://www.voguepatterns.com/tech/measure/bmisses.html
If you imagine that there's a size 9 in between of size 8 and 10 on this chart, then it matches the standard Japanese size 9 Woman used by BTSSB as their size for all of their garments (apart of shoes of course ^^;;). If you've got a body that matches a imaginable size 9 (in between of size 8 and 10) then you've got a body that is designed for BTSSB clothes. ^^
But then of course a loose-fitting garment like blouse or some dresses may fit you if you're bigger than size 8-10 but then the blouse would not sit on you as intended by the designer.
I'm too big, (about 16-18 on the chart) so I absolutely cannot wear BTSSB clothes.. *crying*
