More shopping help needed- I'm looking for two things, and I can't seem to find what I want on Ebay!
A waist cincher... the type you wear underneath your clothes. The dress I'm wearing on Halloween has around a 26" waist. It fits me fine, but is a little snug at the narrowest waist point. It's from the 1950s, so I don't want to put too much strain on the fabric of the dress itself. I want a waist cincher that's pretty cheap, but that goes down to 24-25", and everything I see seems much larger. Any ideas?

Also.. I saw cobwebby tights mentioned on here recently. Where would one acquire such a thing? And- in your opinion do they look cute, or 80s skanky?

Hello! Unfortunately I can't recommend any waist cincher as I do not know any good source that I know is good... But I just want to give you a tip, it is that you should check out the cincher that it is not too bulky. It is not fun if it is too bulky then it adds to your measurements not at the waist but at ribcage and hip. A thin but sturdy cincher is good. Maybe there's good waist girdle in your area? One that actually cover the waist, not ending at the waist. There's no such thing here in my town in Sweden but I've seen pictures of it from the USA.

I got a waist cincher in that size at an old ladies' lingerie store in a mall near Boston and I think it was only between $20~25. But that was in... 1994? ^^;;; It's become much harder to find such small things since then. Even so, a lingerie store that has a large clientele of old ladies is a good place to start looking, because they still use undergarments like that. If they don't have your size in stock maybe they can order it.

As for cobweb tights... I don't like them personally, but if you do then go for it!

i usually find some of the old fashioned cinchers on ebay by looking for "corset metal boning" -- there's one seller that has a range of sizes, vintage deadstock. some have garter straps as well.

I have a pair of cobweb tights that were purchased years ago from Hot Topic. In my oppinion, they can be worn in lieu of fishnets, and thats pretty much where they stand. They are great for that early 80's goth/punk look, but for loli they are a bit too skanky. Maybe if they were layered over a pair of white or pink tights then they would be decent enough, but personally, I stick to solid coloured opaque tights.

For real waistcinchers that really do some serious cinching, check out Vollers (www.vollerscorset.co.uk) or Axfords (www.axfords.co.uk) corsets. If you want something more decorative with not as much cinch you can try Gallery Serpentine (www.galleryserpentine.com).

As for cobweb tights, I have yet to see someone who can pull it off without looking tacky. ;)

I'll second the Gallery Serpentine suggestion. I bought a lovely plain black satin 20" pointy waist cincher there and it's the most comfortable corset I own, it's really well-made, and though I wear it very frequently it's shown no signs of wear, pulling, etc. It also gives me a really nice shape. The service there was really prompt - I think the cincher arrived a week after I paid for it! - but they do usually say to allow longer for delivery.
The link to the cinchers on their website is here:

Good luck!
