Hello, you lovely lolita ladies (and gentlemen!). I'm Alanna, and I have a few questions concerning how to keep certain accessories in their proper places ^^; I'm wearing my new lolita dress to ohayocon this weekend; it's modled from Shinya's Un Ange Passe dress from Shoxx magazine.

Sorry for the poor setting and pictures, it's kind of difficult to take pictures of yourself in suck a small kitchen ^^;

 

Questions:

1) Because I hate how satin makes me look in pictures, the dress is made from a heavy velveteen. This makes the bows very heavy. I've sewn combs to the back, but they still fall off over and over. Is there a better way to keep them on? (I'm wearing a wig, by the way)

 

2) My thigh-highs slip down over and over, and you can see it in one of the pictures. I've tried double-sided tape to keep them up, but it didn't work at all. Do any of you have a special way to keep your stockings up?

 

3)  I have my head-dress tied under my chin, do you all think that adds too much ribbon dangling in the front? ^^;

Yeah, they are ^^; I tried to photoshop out my red-eyes of doom in the 2nd head shot, and they came out a bit brighter than usual though XD

first of all, that dress is an excellent copy :) nice work.

second off all, for the bows, if you are wearing a wig well there is a super easy solution: safety pins! nothing keeps things in place better than just pinning them to the wig. plus it will probably help give your headdress more stability in general.

Aha! I've safety pinned things to wigs before, but I never considered using them on the bows! That's a great idea.

Haha, I think lolita is the only style I can pull off without looking like a dork. It helps to look younger than I am sometimes XD Thank you!

I thought about sewing them on, but it would take a ton of stitching since these bows are amazingly heavy. I might end up tacking them in with a couple stitches just in case ^^;

I haven't tried eyelash glue yet. I used fake nail glue once and it just popped off as soon as I walked out the door =X

That dress is gorgeous, you di an excellent job. And a garter belt will help hold your stockings up. They sell various ones in lingerie stores.

for thigh high socks what really works the best is liquid latex, you can get some at sock-dreams.com

The dress is extremely gorgeous, and it's a great replica.
For your stockings, if the eyelash glue doesn't work, I would suggest getting a garter belt and just attaching the stockings...that at least guarantees they can't fall down.
For tying your headdress underneath your chin, it looks just fine. but you can tye it behind your neck if you think there's too much ribbon.
and I think safety pinning the bows would be a good idea. or you could just sew them directly onto the headpiece...

If they are thigh high socks than couldn't you use a garter belt?

If the bows won't stay perky looking you could always use fabric stiffener spray . . but I didn't quite understand the bow question so I apologize if that's a bad answer ^^;

The problem with the bows is that when I put them on the wig, they fall off because they're really heavy and the combs won't support them. They're very stiff and perky though ^^

Yes, some kind of pin should be good for the bows. I think a garter belt would be good for the thigh highs. I think I'd probably cut the ribbon a bit, but however you like it is good.

I have no criticism ^.^ but about the thigh-highs, there is special tape you can buy, that people usually use on strapless dresses/tops (or maybe that's what you tried). or if all else fails, probably a garter belt.

I agree on that. Besides the fact that the skirt is too big (especially when you're that thin) I think that's an impressive replica and you're a gorgeous looking girl.

That dress is a great replica!! It in my opinion looks much better in velveteen. I don't feel that you could ever have too much ribbon or lace. I have a huge problem keeping up thigh highs. Besides wearing pantyhoes, I wear a garter belt or a corset with detachable garters. Garters can be rough on thigh highs though, very easy to make a hole. Saftey pins is such a good idea!! I don't think that it looks too big or anything, it really looks like something straight outta a tokyo shop.

seriously, i used to wear thigh highs without them and they would slip down all day and be annoying as hell. you can find garter belts at pretty much all lingerie shops and you can use them with any thigh highs.. very nice to have.
