Need Maryjanes
Sep. 17th, 2003 11:45 amFirst time I've actually posted to this community as opposed to just commenting. Actually it's the first time I've posted to any community, so I hope I do this right.
I need some new maryjanes. I had the perfect pair - it was like they'd been designed with egl in mind. They were court shoes (I think they're known as pumps in the US) which kept slipping off my feet, so I had a cobbler put a strap on them. They looked like this, except that they were covered in a suede-like material, which had patterns engraved into the suede (not sure what the term for that is - flocking?). See what I mean when I said they were the perfect pair of maryjanes? They were comfortable to walk in too.
Then one day I was walking & felt some thing go funny on my foot. I looked down & the heel was held on by a thread! (I was on the way to a gig too - typical! I had to not move around much at the gig - easy as I was on the merch table - & when I went to a club afterwards I danced barefoot.) I thought it might be easy to find a replacement pair, as I have really weeny feet & my shoe size can be found in kids & adult sections. But the cute mary janes I remember wearing when I was a kid are gone - nowadays they seem to be making them as trainer-like as possible, with bulging, rubbery, rounded souls. Also I preferably want a pair like the ones I had, with a nice thick heel & slight platform. If neccessary I can use a pair of court shoes & add straps, but I can't find any of them in the style I want either :-(. Oh yeah - & they need to be reasonably cheap, & available in a UK 3-4 (about a US 5).
Please don't suggest just gluing the heel back on. I would be willing to do that if I was really desperate, but once a heel is gone, I can never trust those shoes again & would feel uncomfortable wearing them & constantly on my guard in case it happens again.
