I read in Lisa Dalby's book named "Kimono" that anything that isn't wafuku [Literally translated as "Japanese Clothes" i.e. either man's traditional wear or a lady's traditional wear] is called youkufu, regardless of whether it orginated from the west or not. Also, did you know that the word kimono literally translated means "things to wear"? The things you learn from reading books :)
