Hiyo, this is my first post-post to [livejournal.com profile] egl, so just wanted to say hi ^^

My question is... I have these black 4" platforms from Mudd, but they're open-toed, not MJ's. I've looked and looked and couldn't find any egl outfits that don't have MJ's, but the same goes with non-bang hairstyles (though I have found some great looks w/o bangs). So my question is, are open-toed platforms completely out of the question when dressing egl? If not, what are the best looks to go with them?

Thanks for your help ^^;;

How open-toed are they? Maybe you can jsut wear nets with them or black tights...

Anyway, don't be too concerned with the rules of "does" and "don'ts". Best thing to do is look at the mirror. Wear the outfit you plan to wear, wear your shoes, and look at yourself in the mirror. And if you, in your own opinion, look loli, then who cares if it's a no-no or not :)

No, I don't think so. It's good to add your own personal touch to outfits, there doesn't really need to be any rules.
I would say, There are not really ANY rules, to any fashion, just guidlines. I personaly think open toe, can look good, depending on how, and what they are worn with, and I have seen Japanese lolita's do it before. I've been a following the G&L fashion for 3 years now, and I think the most interchangable thing about the fasion, is the shoes. Even combat boots can look really cute! Especialy with a white frilly dress. (I must scan that pic sometime, it's from one of the GLB's)

not helpful, but anyway....

the cover art for GL&B2 has a loli wearing open-toed shoes. so i guess, depending on how you wear it and with what combinations, yes those sandals can be egl...

is it such a big difference if it's elg or not in other's eyes? if you think it looks good, wear it. if you dont think it looks good, don't weat it. easy? yes.

A lot of lolis wear big giant combat boots. Just look in the street snaps. Since loli shoes are so expensive girls usually only have a pair or two and mix and match them with all outfits. Don't worry too much about what other people do and just go with your own style. Plus you can always get platform MJs at Payless if you're really dying for them.

I got mine there a few years ago ^^ I dunno if they still do have them. They have massive heels. I also got some flat MJ-type there too...

I have been seeing platform and high heeled mary janes EVERYWHERE for the past year or so... and lots on sale at places like Steve Madden, Bakers, etc. Also those 20s- inspired shoes with the curved heels and the T-strap, and the ankle-strap MJs.. if you just keep an eye out when shopping, you should be able to find a pair of maryjanes for as cheap as $10- 15 or so. I have just been buying non-stop for a year, because i know they will go back out of style eventually, and I won't be able to buy anything! Right now I have 42(!!!!) pairs of high-heeled maryjanes, all were under $30!

I think maybe some striped tights would be a really nice touch...or tights of any sort. ^_^
