Sweet JSK with all black????

So this may be an incredibly dumb question, but I realised I honestly don't really know the answer to this even though I know the fashion really well. So, you see girls coordinate pastels with a black skirt or dress all the time, but does it ever work in the reverse? Can a very decidedly sweet JSK (like Squirrel Party or Sugary Carnival or something else crazy sweet) be coordinated with all black, or a lot of black? What are you guys' opinions? Thanks thanks!
