How do you decide what to buy?

Hi!
This is my first post on EGL and pretty much my first official post on livejournal (though I've lurked for about 2 years) so please bear with me.

I just wanted to hear some opinions on how one should go about buying the many, many loli items they want (I.E. "should you buy the dress or the petti first?" "Should you focus more on clothes or accessories?" "Did you buy a blouse, skirt/dress, sock, shoes, and petti all at once, or several of one item before getting the others?" those kinds of ideas, if that makes sense)

I've just recently gotten serious about wearing lolita after a few half-hearted attempts, and have what I'm going to buy pretty much planned out. I'm just curious to know how some of you went about buying your original "starter" pieces, or even how you still do choose what to buy.

(Maybe I'm just super OCD and no one else plans like this lol)

I realize this is similar to some other topics, but at the same time unique enough to allow for a post, sorry if it bothers anyone! I'll gladly delete if it's a bother.
