I've watched this lovely little community for a week or more now. Thought I'd make a post to say hello to you all. ^_^ I LOVE EGL style. I would love to own some egl like outfits. However.. I'm poor and I'm not creative. Think anyone can give me some idea's on easy to make egl outfits? Maybe give me some pictures? A lot of the J-rock outfits I've seen look like they'd be too hard to make for me right now. lol. But yeah.. Pictures would be nice to give me some ideas. ^^; Er.. Yeah.. This ends my little hello post. xD

Helloooo Lolitas!

Here's another sewing trick. I'm not sure how simple or cost-effective it is, but it might help someone. I'm making an Isabella costume from the manga "Paradise Kiss". And I had this great lavender suit jacket, but the sleeves are just a little short. So I thought I'd sew some ruffle to the inside of the sleeves, which would make the sleeves seem longer and more elegant.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any ruffle at Joanne's that I liked. It was either too short, or covered with little holes and designs, or both. What I ended up doing was buying some bridal bouquet holders. They're little plastic funnels that are supposed to hold bridal flower bouquets, and they come with a good 2 inches of satin or tulle ruffle. The ruffle is sewn to the plastic funnel and I don't know how to fold and sew ruffle myself, but I just did a simple handstitch through the ruffle to hold it together and then removed the thread that held it to the plastic. It was really simple (although a little time-consuming), and the ruffle looks great attached to the jacket sleeves! I imagine it would look just as good on dress sleeves, on socks or on slips or any number of other projects!

An idea

First, I want to make something clear about this post: I am in no way trying to stir up trouble here, nor do I mean this post as any sort of disrespect nor sabotage towards this list.

With that bit of drama aside, would anyone on here be interested in, or see a point in, an EGL-based message board?

Hopefully within the month, I'll be transferring my website to it's new hosting home, at which point it will be ramping up far beyond what it current is. The basic idea of my website is a place of Japanese (and Asian) entertainment and culture, especially those things that beyond just anime and vieo games - because you can find those kinds of topics anywhere and everywhere out there. Once the news portion of the site is up, not only will it cover those things, but it will cover a lot more, such as Japanese culture, music, fashion, manga, guides to travelling to and surviving Japan, and a lot more. Since one of my specialties is Japanese fashion, especially EGL, and I had the chance to study and experience a lot of it while living in Japan, that will indeed be a big part of the coverage.

Okay, finally, to the point of my posting this. This EGL LJ community is a great way for a lot of us to meet each other, become friends, and spead the word about a lot of great stuff. The problem - and this is the problem with every and all LJ communities - is that it is very hard to have active and ongoing conversation about a number of topics at one time. As soon as a post becomes a day or two old, it can be very easy for it to be overlooked. As well, because LJ was indeed designed to be a journal, and not really a place for ongoing conversation, long ongoing discussions concerning a posting can get messy if they get too long. (Plus, there's the fact that when a post gets a new response, it doesn't get "bumped" to let people know that, like on a message board.)

I already run a message board, and one of the topics of conversation has always been Japanese fashion. However, if enough people would be interested in setting up a second "community" over there, it would be very easy for me to set up an EGL-specific (or mainly ELG with all J-fashion as a secondary topic) section on the board.

Again, my intent wouldn't be to try to sabotage this place, I just think it would be nice to have a place more specifically designed for chatting and interactive conversation. As well, another plus would be for important topics - such as upcoming meets or whatnot - those kinds of things could be pinned to the main page, so that people wouldn't have to keep posting reminders or whatnot. If enough people would be interested, I could set up the ELG section once the move is made (just to avoid complicating the move any more than it already is).

Good idea, bad idea, either way, I'd love to hear opinions. And, if you want to get a quick look at my message board, to better form your opinion either way, the URL is cafe.morningmayo.com.
