Jun. 30th, 2003 11:27 pmhello! i am just going to introduce myself to you... i am from norway, & i recently (few months ago that is...) discovered the gothic lolita style & it was love at first sight! i don't have any egl clothes myself, as i tend to fuck up my mothers sewing machine & egl shops are, well, rather unexisting in norway (unless you go for the square dance dresses...) but... i am going to work this out somehow, so, you norwegians (i know who you are) where can you get poofy petticoats? i so badly want one..! any answer goes.
i'll post something more interesting later, i'm sorry.

despite the problematic sewing machine
Try to sew one. Petticoat is a good starter project since it will be under your clothes --> little mistakes not visible. It's possible to sew a petticoat by hand, time-consuming but possible.

Date: 2003-07-01 07:59 am (UTC)You need some cotton, some netting (like in ballet tutus) and some elastic band.
First cut a stripe that is about 25 cm wide and double the lenght of your waist. Sew a little tunnel in the other long side, it is for elastic band. Sew the short sides together. Cut a piece from the elastic band a little longer than your waist measurement. Pull that piece throught the tunnel and sew the ends together.
Now cut a piece froom the netting that's about 40 cm wide and two to three times the lenght of the cotton piece (more lenght = more puffyness = more expensive). Fold it in half lenghtwise. Sew with long stitches along the fold two lines, leave long strings and tie the strings in other end together. Now when you pull the untied strings, fabric goes into little creases. Crease until the lenght of the cotton piece, even out the creases and tie the other end of the strings as well.
Sew the netting onto the cotton from the folded side. Sew the short ends together. Make two creased netting piece, this time two to three times the length of the original piece. Sew them onto the original netting, one to each fold part. Continue until desired lenght. Finish the seams outside with a nice ribbon if you wish.
Tadaa! You have a petticoat. Dance around in front of your mirror.

Date: 2003-07-01 08:25 am (UTC)Try to make friends with the sewing machine, making the petticoat will be remarkably faster with it.
Good luck in your project!
