Question about salopettes

Only very recently have I started to find salopettes cute (I used to hate them), but I'd like a bit of clarification about something.
On pretty much all of them, it looks like the sides come down almost to the hips. Like-- a normal shirttail wouldn't stay put and would keep coming untucked/stick out of the sides. Is that the case (if my question even makes any sense)? I've included a picture for reference:
