ayez all, i just have a little question. :D is it wrong to like hiphop and egl? o_o i know those two are from completely different... hmm, cultures, would it be called? just asking...
No O.O Why would it be? Just because you like one style of clothing, doesn't mean you have to stay within that genre. Listen to whatever you want...It's pretty silly not to
woah, quick replies o_o thank you all for taking time to answer my stupid question. "XD its just that my friend said i cant like rap and 'goth' clothes... grr... now i have an excuse to kick him.
Because thats what elitist Goths are like. If you ask the complete elite group/purists. They'll tell you that they ONLY listen to Gothic and occasionally Industrial bands.
I DO listen to Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois, Dir en Grey, Baroque, Kagrra etc etc but I'm also in love with very un-EGL bands such as Enigma, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush, Nick Drake, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Smiths, Adam Ant etc.
I actually wouldn't call them un-EGL bands.. I mean, have you seen some of the stuff that the Gothic Lolitas in the Bibles listen to? Half of them are still stuck on Evanescence (such as Novala Takemoto), so.. *shrug* ^_^
I was never really into Evanesence, but what really made me angry at that girl was when she wore a corset onstage with blue jeans and closed only the top hook, so that it hung open looking really atrocious.
People have diverse tastes so why not mix it up? I listen to just about every genre of music there is because I can appreciate the styles that I find attractive.
Yupyup. I agree with everyone. Like what you want, be yourself.. Any "goth" who says that you can only like this or that is stupid.. because as a "goth" you are supposed to express yourself, no?
I don't like any J-Rock at all. Actually, I find it annoying when people assume I like J-Rock and start talking to me about Malice Mizer or various other Visual Kei bands just because I'm dressed in EGL.
your friend is an idiot. there's no dress code for each music genre, there is no required listening for clothing styles. anyone who thinks there should be you may send to my residence to be stabbed with whatever device may come into my hands.
You can like whatever music you want.., Honestly the only egl music I like is Kana and it seems that everyone but me hates her a lot. *lol* Many people want to pigeon-hole themselves in all aspects of subcultures, not just with music. I think that's really sad. You should always seek to stay true to your heart even if it goes against traditional notions of propriety. ^^
*goes off to listen to Rip Slyme and make lolita clothes*
it is a just a covering for your body. people like to make big deals about things like oh hes wearing plaid pants with a patch but he doesnt listen to so an so, or shes wearing all black so they must be into this... peoples ideads with image are so fucking retarded. oh have to dress a certain way based on what youre into. but yet everyone trys so hard to be an individual, even though they are running around with 10 "individuals" looking just like them. everyone should just wear what they want regaurdless of what kind of "lifestyle" they live. the hell i am going to be stuck wearing camo shorts till im aged just because im supposed to look like a hardcore kid.
I think its alright, i listen to indie and J-rock and punk and emo and a lot of people should be open-minded about that. It's very cool that you like hip-hop.
People like that tend to forget that GL fashion is just that; fashion. Dress the way you like, listen to whatever you like. (^_^) ::listens pretty much to nothing but j rock and Japanese indies bands... Doh::
Probably in Japan its wrong. Then again, Japanese fashion styles over there are just that, fashion styles, and not a subculture in whole, whereas over here, whatever music style you listen to tends to stick you in the subculture with it.
So since a great majority of us aren't living in Japan, have at it. :)
Absolutely not. I believe music should be separate from fashion. Hell, I love listening to Kanye West, The Beatnuts, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Jadakiss and all those other happy little rappers.

But what music you like is not important. I hate those who judge others on music taste and shoves them into a scene.
