Cyber Lolita?
Mar. 10th, 2003 04:32 pmI'm always one for blending of styles and evolving fashion, and I was wondering what your opinions were on using non-traditional materials on lolita style dresses and things. Like perhaps vinyl on the cuffs and collar of a jacket or blouse, or buckles and bondage straps on dresses? Maybe throwing in some cyber-goth brights or a sort of post-apocolyptic rivet lolita look? I'm just playing around with some ideas here. Admittedly, I've only recently really become aware of egl as an instituted style, I've always been one to mix whatever I've worn with a sort of little girl flair.

Date: 2003-03-10 05:53 pm (UTC)(Fashion has lots of styles, people -- there will always be pure cyber and pure lolita and pure fruity-style fashion and pure velvet-pointy-shoed romanti-goths. EGL deserves to be allowed to exist as EGL... but it doesn't keep some of us from going to pink gingham and some of us to pink vinyl... and some of us to puke at pink. ;9)
ANYWAY! I personally don't puke at pink. I worship pink. PINK IS THE NEW BLACK.
Cyber lolita has always been my gothique style of choice; petticoats and neon pink stripey stockings just go together, in my opinion. Now, I am coming from a largely goth-club-scene-influenced fashion style, but it seems like cyber & lolita blend reaaaaaaaaally well in a lot of cases. The giant platforms are shared, there are lots of cute pigtail hair extensions, and japanese fashion in general... I saw a lime green parasol the other night, that was spiffy.
Cyber tends to be sleeker a lot of times, so I try to pair a lot of my uber-ruffly stuff with the tight shirts to balance it out.... I have yet to find a really cute girly pair of goggles.
My current project is a pink gown which is mostly inspired by egl brands (visible) but with tank-style neckline and separate sleeves. As much as I love loli, I can never seem to bring myself to cover my shoulders!

I agree about pink. I am in love with bubble gum pink and black, and also colours like lime green and electric blue.

Date: 2003-03-10 10:58 pm (UTC)Hmm.... actually, we lack capes and velvet. ... I just realized that... I feel odd now... we don't actually have many romantigoths... oh dear. I'm going to go leave Anne Rice novels on our doorstep.
Oh well! I love love love your idea. My friend and I were makin' Dane-esque tops the other day... my only advice to you is neat fabric paint! Bwheeheehee! It's so easy to get really cool results with that, if you like designs. I kind of went a little insane with the bright sparkly pink glow in the dark circuit-board thing. (Did you see that cross-posted circuit board embroidery? LUST.)
I don't usually make full combination pieces (I am a mix-and-match WHORE) but that sounds soooo nifty. Must finish ballgown... must... finish.... It's a sort of dark rose velvet, but I wish I could find bright pink stretch velvet.

(only the plainest items are on the site, I don't know why ^^;)
I'm not sure that style is considered lolita, though. It's a cool look, but thematically it's so different that it seems strange to put them both under the same label.
